the parking direction (rearwards or forwards) can
also be selected as desired.
If Active Parking Assist is available, the Ç mes-
sage appears in the driver display. When the sys-
tem detects parking spaces, È appears. The
arrows show on which side of the road free park-
ing spaces are located. These are then shown in
the central display.
When Active Parking Assist is activated, the turn
signal indicators are activated based on the calcu-
lated path of your vehicle. The procedure is assis-
ted by acceleration, braking, steering, and gear
changes when entering or exiting a parking space.
To start the parking procedure, press the c
button (
page 322).

Active Parking Assist will be cancelled in the fol-
lowing situations:
You press the c button again.
R
You begin steering.
R
You engage the park position j.
R
You set the electric parking brake.
R

ESP
intervenes.
R
You open the driver's door.
R
System limits
If the exterior lighting is malfunctioning, Active
Parking Assist is not available.
Also, observe the system limits of the following
systems:
Reversing camera (
page 309)

360° camera (
page 311)

Objects above or below the detection range of
Active Parking Assist, e.g.protruding loads, over-
hangs or loading ramps of trucks or parking
spaces' boundaries are not detected when meas-
uring the parking space. These are also then not
taken into account when calculating the parking
procedure. In some circumstances, Active Parking
Assist may prematurely guide you into the parking
space or brake too late.
Certain environmental conditions, suchas snowfall
or heavy rain, may lead to a parking space being
measured incorrectly. Parking spaces that are
partially occupied by drawbars might not be iden-
tified as such or be measured incorrectly. Only

use Active Parking Assist on level, high-grip
ground.
& WARNING Risk of accident due to objects
located above or below the detection
range of Active Parking Assist
If there are objects above or below the detec-
tion range, the following situations may arise:
Active Parking Assist may steer too early.

The vehicle may not stop in front of these
R
objects.
There is a danger of collision!
In these situations, do not use Active
#
Parking Assist.
Active Parking Assist can also display unsuitable
parking spaces, e.g.parking spaces in which park-
ing is not permitted or on unsuitable surfaces.
Do not use Active Parking Assist in the following
situations:
In extreme weather conditions such asice,

packed snow or in heavy rain.
