SECTION 4 - PROGRAMMING GUIDE

MATRIX MODULE ARCHITECTURE

The 40-884A is a single pole RF matrix with 4 connections on the X axis and 4 connections on the Y axis. A signal
path is made by activating a crosspoint to create an X to Y connection, the corresponding termination relays are
automatically energized to complete the signal path. The default (un-powered) state of all X and Y terminals is
terminated into 50Ω. The architecture of the matrix is shown in the diagram below:
40-884A-001 - Simplified Diagram of the 4x4 RF Matrix (default switch positions)
The matrix is treated as a single programming sub-unit. It should be noted that up to four X to Y signal paths are
possible at the same time, but due to the switching architecture, X to X connections using a Y path, or Y to Y
connections using an X path are not possible. The following page gives some simple examples using the provided
drivers: the Direct I/O driver, the VISA driver, and the IVI driver.
