FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

A functional block diagram is provided in Figure 2.1. The Matrix Module is powered by 3.3V and 5V inputs via
Compact PCI connector J1. The interface to the user test equipment is via the front panel mounted SMA coaxial
connectors. The module comprises a mother board containing the PXI interface and control logic, and eight sub-
modules, each populated with solid-state relays arranged as a 4-channel multiplexer with a tree architecture. The
channels of these multiplexer sub-modules are interconnected to form a 4x4 matrix as outlined in Figure 2.2.The
solid state relays are energised via driver devices on each sub-module. The drivers receive data via ribbon cables
from isolation devices, U5 and U6, on the mother board which are in turn controlled from the PCI bridge U1. Module
configuration is determined by data stored in EEPROM U3, the PCI Bridge U1 is configured by EEPROM U2.
