The engine hood is released from inside the vehicle.

Pull the release lever on the left under the in strument
panel ~ fig. 259 in t he direct ion of the arrow.
The hood pops up slight ly under spring pressure. •

Before
opening the engine hood, make sure that the wind-
shie ld wipers are flat against the windshield. Otherwise,
they could damage the paint on the hood.
Lift the hood slightly~

Pull up on t he release under the hood:=} fig. 260. Thi s
releases the catch.
- Open the hood all the way.
The hood is kept in the open position by two gas struts.

WARNING
Hot engine coolant can burn you.
•
To reduce the risk of being burned , never open the hood if you
see or hear steam or coolant escaping from the engine compart-
ment . Wait until no steam or coolant can be seen or heard before
carefully opening the hood . •
