Adjusting the sound
Muting the sound
Press MUTE to tcmpor_ily
turn off the sound. While the sound is off;
the screen displays the word "MUTE" in the lower/right
corner. 'Io
restore the sound, press MUTE or VOL 4 _.
When you press MUTE, the Closed Caption f?aturc is automatically
activated. 'Io deactivate captions and restore normal sound, press
MUTE Nain. This f?aturc works only when the Closed Caption mode
is set to OFF. See "Using the dosed captioned f_aturc" on page 30 for
more information about closed caption settings.
Selecting
stereo/SAP
broadcasts
'Ilae multi-channel 'INf sound (MTS) f_ature provides high-fidelity
stereo sound. MTS also c_ transmit a second audio program (SAP)
containing a second languNe or other audio information.
Note: The MTS f?ature is not _,ailable in VIDEO mode.
In general, you can leave your 'INf in stereo mode because the TV
mltomatically outputs either stereo or monatlral ("mono") sound,
depending on the broadcast type.
When the 'I_f receives a stereo or SAP broadcast, the word "STEREO"
or "SAP" displays on-screen every time you turn the 'INf on, change
the ch_nel,
or press RECALL.
To listen to stereo sound:
1. Press MENU.
2. Press 4 or _ to highlight the AUDIO menu.
3. Press I or v to highlight MTS.
4. Press 4 or _ to highlight STR (stereo).
Note: If the stereo sound is noisy, select MONO
to reduce the
noise.

To listen to a second audio program
(SAP):
1. Press MENU.
2. Press 4 or _ to highlight the AUDIO menu.
3. Press I or v to highlight MTS.
4. Press _ or _ to highlight SAP. The 'INr speakers will output the
second audio program, instead of normal mldio.
