CUTTING WITH YOUR SLIDING MITER SAW
WARNING
clamp to secure your workpiece, clamp the
workpiece on one side of the blade only. The
workpiece must remain free on one side of the
blade to prevent the blade from binding in the
workpiece. The workpiece binding the blade will
cause motor stalling and kickback. This
situation could cause an accident resulting in
possible serious personal injury.
CHOP CUT (FIG. 31)
A "chop cut" is a cross-cut made when the saw
is held to the rearmost position and is operated
like a conventional (non-sliding) miter saw.
a. Loosen the slide-rail lock knob.
b. Slide the head assembly through the sliding
mechanism backward as far as it will go.
c. Tighten the slide-rail lock knob.
d. Properly position the workpiece. Make sure
that the workpiece is clamped firmly against
the table and the fence. Make sure that the
work clamp does not interfere with the cutting
operation.
e. Turn on the saw. Always allow the blade to
reach full speed before cutting. Lower the
blade and make your cut.
f. Turn the saw off and wait until blade comes
to a complete stop before returning the saw
arm to the raised position and/or removing
the work piece.
SLIDE CUT (FIG. 32)
WARNING
The blade can suddenly climb the workpiece,
causing KICKBACK.
A "slide cut" is made with the head assembly
unlocked and able to move away from the
fence. This type of cut is used mainly for wide
pieces.
WARNING
with the saw off by conducting a simulated
cutting cycle and observe the projected path of
the saw blade. Keep hands at least 6 inches
(152 mm) away from the projected path of the
saw blade.
