SEAMING SHEERS WITH ROLLED
EDGE
Use
the
three-thread
narrow rolled
edge
setting
to
sew sheer
fabric that would
otherwise require French
seam
finishing. The
stítch
length should
be
set
at,,2,,
Then simply
sew
the
seam,
aligning
the fabric
edge
with
the yellow
seam
guide
marking
on
the
front
cover
of the
machine.

LETTUCE
EDGE
A fluted or "lettuce"
edge
can
be created
on most
light
and
medium-weight stretch fabrics including
interlock,
jersey
and
rib trim.
lt
can also be
done
on a
bias grainline
edge
of
soft
woven
fabrics.

It
is appropriate
on
sports wear, childrens wear
and
accessories,
and can
also be
very effective
on
evening wear.
Set
the
machine
for
three-thread
narrow rolled
edging,
stitch length
1mm.
Stitch
in the direction
of
greatest
stretch
of
the fabric
-
usually
crosswise
grain
on knits
or
bias (diagonal) grain on
wovens.
Stretch
the fabric slightly
as
it
feeds
under
the
presser
foot.
You
can develop
even
more,,lettucing,,
by stretching the
edge
after
it
has
been
stitched.
On
a single
thickness
of
fabric,
guide
the
edge
to
allow the
knife
blades
to
trim
the fabric.(Figure
g2)
When sewing
on
a
fold
edge,
rotate the upper
knife
blade
up
out of cutting
position
(see
page 1g) and
guide
the
fold
of the fabric
along
the right
edge
of
the
needle
plate.
