BLIND
HEMMING
Your
Baby Lock
serger can
create
a
type
of
blind
hem
that
will
provide
a
sturdy finish
for
sports
wear, childrens wear'and home
decorator items.
lt
overcasts
the
raw
edge
and
secures
the
hem
in
place
at the
same
line.
This
hem
finish
is
fully
stretchable.
1.
Set the
machine
for
two-thread
sewing,
stitch
length
"4" to "5",
stitch width
',3" to
,,5',
as
desired.
2.
Fold.
garment
fabric up
along
the
hemline.
then
fold
back
against
the right
side
of
the
garment
to
create
a
soft
fold
about
1/4"
(6mm)
from
the
top
edge
of the
hem.
3. Align the
hem under
the
presser
foot
and
stitch,
allowing
the
needle
to
catch
only
a
thread or
two of
the
soft fold.
The
knife
will trim
the
top
edge
of the
hem.
4.
Open
the
soft fold
and
press
flat.
*An
optional
blindhem
piesser
foot
(figure
69-1)
is
available
to
make
it
easier
to
align
the fabric
so
that
the
needle catches
only
the
edge
of the
fold.
This
makes
the
hem
more
invisible.
