Clamshell Clamshell Tool Instructions The clamshell tool is used for making arcs or an all-over clamshell pattern. It has different sizes on all four sides. 1”, 2”, 3”, and 4”. If you are using the template(s) to quilt around (such as a longarm machine, or high shank home machine), you must use the 1/4”...

clamshell Move tool over and align 3” arc with horizontal line and ruler foot. Stitch next arc. Continue in this fashion for desired length. You can stop here for a single row of arcs. Try staggering the arcs for a fun variation. Continue for filled clamshell.

clamshell Move ruler to this new postion aligning small arc with ruler foot and etched horizontal line with the top of the stitched arcs. Stitch across to the other side of the arc. Continue stitching and moving ruler as in previous row but this time in the opposite direction.

clamshell Try different sized arcs as desired. Umbrella Variations Start with a horizontal guideline or seam. Align the etched line on the 1” side of the template to your guideline, and sew from one end to the other. Move template over and repeat stitching creating a row of 1”...

clamshell Without moving foot, change to the 3” arc. Align the etched line on the 3” side of template to your guideline and sew in the opposite direction from your previous stitching, creating an “umbrella” over 1” scallops. Move template and repeat as desired. Try mixing different size scallops for many variations.

heart Heart Instructions If you are using the template(s) to quilt around (such as a longarm machine, or high shank home machine), you must use the 1/4” acrylic thickness. *If you are on a low shank home machine, you must use 3/16” acrylic thickness. If you are on a machine that is stationary, you may find it helpful to put some type of agent such as Grip Stop Dots or spray adhesive on the templates.

heart Simple Block Design 1 Starting with horizontal and vertical crossing lines, align the valley of the heart on the center of the “crosshairs” and the “tip” of the heart on the “southern” grid line. Start and end in the valley of the heart and stitch completely around the template, ending with your needle down.

heart This simple design would make a great border design. To continuously quilt the next pair of designs, back track over previous stitching to get to the “valley” of hearts in the next section of designs. Start and stop at the red circles and backtrack over red dashed areas following arrows.

heart Simple Block Design 2 Create a simple block design using the Heart Tool and horizontal and vertical crosshair lines. Start with your ruler foot centered on a guideline. Place the heart so that each edge touches a 90° line but allowing 1/4”...

heart Turn heart 180° so the tip of the heart points towards center and the edge of the heart matches the pre- viously stitched lines. Stitch each quadrant as before to complete the the inside design shown below. Simple Border Design 1 Create a simple border design using the Heart Design Tool.

heart Flip the template. Align the bottom slope of the template with the bottom slope of the previously stitched heart. Stitch 3/4 of the way around stopping before you complete the entire tip as shown below. Continue for desired length. Completed border design.

triangular chain Create a Swag Border Using either a line drawn (or chalked) on the quilt or a seam, you can create a simple row of triangles. Use the etched lines in the tool to align the largest opening over the seam or line. Place the left hand side of the opening on the foot.

Move template to the right and stitch the next triangle. Repeat to the end of the row, with the needle down.

triangular chain Create a Zig Zag Line Using either a line drawn (or chalked) on the quilt or a seam, you can create a simple zig zag line. Use the etched lines in the tool to align the chosen opening over the seam or line. Place the left hand side of the opening on the foot.
