OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Interfacing to 8 - Bit Parallel Interface
( Optional Interface )
When equipped with the Optional 8- Bit Parallel Inter
face, the signal assignments at the 50- pin backpanel
interface connector change from those used by the
Serial Interface . Also , a 50 -pin adapter cable is provid
ed as a standard accessory with the Parallel Interface .

The adapter cable has an AMP connector at one end
(which plugs into the 4643 50 -pin backpanel interface
connector) and a Winchester Connector at the other
end . A user-supplied interface cable from the user
system plugs into the Winchester Connector.

A printer- generated signal which indicates that the printer is ready to be put ON
LINE.
When READY is true , the following are true:
ï Power and DC voltages are on .
All interlocks are closed .
" Paper has been loaded .
" No printer fault exists.
ï SELF TEST is not selected .
A printer- generated signal which indicates that the printer has been put on line .
When ON LINE is true , the following are true:
" The ALARM light is off.
. The printer operator has pressed the ON LINE switch .
The printer is ready to accept data from the user.
SELF TEST is not selected .
A printer-generated signal which synchronizes data transmission between the
printer and the user system . The DEMAND LINE signal requests a character from
the user and remains active until the DATA STROBE is received . It is disabled while
the character is being stored in memory and during the print operation . DEMAND
LINE will never be active unless ON LINE is active.
4643 PRINTER OPERATOR'S
