Fuel Shut-Off Valve
1. Close the fuel shut-off valve, Figure 50.
3. Wash the filter base and the adapter with a brush
and clean diesel fuel.
4. Install a new element and sealing rings, taking
care to prevent dirt from contacting the parts.
5. Install the retaining bolt. Do not overtighten.
6. Bleed the fuel filter and injection pump as covered
in the following procedures.
BLEEDING THE FUEL SYSTEM
Fuel Filter: Bleed the fuel filter after it has been drained,
if a new element has been installed, if the tractor has
run out of fuel, if the lines leading to or from the filter
have been disconnected, or if the injection pump has
been repaired.
1. Be sure there is adequate fuel in the fuel tank.
2. Loosen the fuel filter bleed screw, (1), Figure
49, until air-free fuel flows from the filter. Tighten
the bleed screw.
Fuel Injection Pump:
Bleed the fuel injection pump if
the tractor has run out of fuel, if a new filter element
has been installed, or if the injection pump has been
removed for repairs.
• Loosen the injection bleed screw (1), Figure 51,
until air-free fuel flows from the pump. Tighten
the bleed screw.
Injector Lines:
Bleed the injector lines if the tractor
has run out of fuel, if new injectors have been installed,
or if the injection pump has been removed for repairs.
1. Open the hood, loosen the battery tray hold down
nut (2), and swing the battery tray (1) out for
access to the injector lines, Figure 52.
2. Loosen the injector line fittings at the injectors.
3. Move the hand throttle control lever to its wide
open position and push the stop control in.
4. Crank the engine until air-free fuel flows from each
connection, then tighten the fittings securely.
IMPORTANT: Do not crank the engine contin-
uously for more than 30 seconds. If air is not
purged from the fuel system, repeat the procedure.
CLEANING THE FUEL SEDIMENT BOWL
AND FILTER (GASOLINE)
The gasoline fuel sediment bowl and filter should be
cleaned every 50 hours.
