OPERATION
STABILIZERS (ACCESSORY)
Stabilizer kits are available as an accessory from your
Ford Tractor-Equipment Dealer. The stabilizers prevent
equipment from swaying from side to side. This is import-
ant when operating on slopes, near fences, walls, or ditch-
es, and with certain equipment. Check the Operator's
Equipment Manual. The kits are installed as follows:
Ford 231, 335, and 531: The stabilizer kit is shown
in Figure 32. The kit can be installed with Category I
or II linkage.
To install the kit:
1.
Replace the existing fender bolts with the carriage
bolts in the kit (3). Attach the fender and stab-
ilizer brackets (6) and (9) with the carriage bolts,
nuts, and flat washers as shown in Figure 32. Do
not tighten at this time.
2.
Install one pivot pin (7) in each bracket and secure
with the nut and lock washer (1) and (2). Do not
tighten at this time. Make sure the large end of
each pin is inboard.

NOTE: Use the lower hole in the links (5) and
(11) when attaching Category II equipment. The
upper hole is for Category I equipment. Adjust
the check chains to the shortest length for Cat-
egory I equipment and lengthen them for Cat-
egory II equipment.
4.
For ease of alignment attach the equipment to the
three-point linkage; then tighten all nuts securely.
Ford 420, 515, 532, and 535: The stabilizer kit for Ford
420, 515, 532, and 535 Tractors is shown in Figure
33. It can be used with either Category I or II linkage.
To install the kit:
1. Attach the stabilizer brackets (3 and 8) to the
rear axle with U-bolts (1), and nuts and lock wash-
ers (5 and 6). Do not tighten at this time. Make
sure the U-bolts are seated in the second groove
of the axle housing (counting from the bell hous-
ing), and that the brackets angle rearward and
toward the tires.
