OPERATION
Operating the tractor with a heavy load in too high a
gear, will cause the torque converter to slip excessively,
overheat, and cause the transmission warning light to
light. If the tractor is overloaded, the engine speed will
not exceed a range of 1500-1800 rpm at wide-open
throttle and the torque converter will "stall," bringing
the tractor to a complete stop.
If a "stall" does occur there is still sufficient engine power
to operate the loader; however, to prevent the trans-
mission from overheating, either reduce the load on the
tractor or shift to a lower gear.
IMPORTANT:
Operating at a "stall" for more than 20
seconds can cause the transmission to overheat. If the
transmission overheats, shift both the power reversing
and gearshift levers to neutral. Idle the engine at 1000
to 1200 rpm until the transmission oil is cooled suf-
ficiently for the warning light to go out Operation can
then be resumed.
6 x 2 MANUAL TRANSMISSION
The 6 x 2 manual transmission incorporates two shift
levers, Figure 13. When the high-low shift lever is in low
range, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and R1 ratios can be selected with
the gearshift lever. The 3rd, 5th, 6th, and R2 ratios can be
obtained when the high-low shift lever is in the high
range position.
To change from one ratio to another:
1.
Depress the clutch pedal completely.
2.
Bring the tractor to a complete stop.
3.
Shift to the desired gear with the gearshift lever or
change ranges with the high-low shift lever.
6 X 4 MANUAL TRANSMISSION
The 6 X 4 manual transmission uses two shift levers;
a gearshift lever and a high-low shift lever, Figure 13.
When the high-low shift lever is in the low range; 1st,
2nd, 3rd, R1 and R2 gear ratios can be obtained with
the gearshift lever. When the high-low lever is in the high
range; 4th, 5th, 6th, R3, and R4 gear ratios can be ob-
tained.
Note that the gearshift pattern provides for straight back
and forth shifting for four of the six gear ratios. This is
especially convenient for shuttle operations such as
loading, back-filling, dozing, etc. To change from one
gear ratio to another, or to change ranges:
1.
Depress the clutch pedal completely.
2.
Bring the tractor to a complete stop.
3.
Shift to the desired gear with the gearshift lever
or change ranges with the high-low shift lever.
8 X 2 MANUAL TRANSMISSION
The 8 X 2 manual transmission also uses two shift levers:
a gearshift lever and a high-low shift lever. The gearshift
lever is used to select one of eight forward gear ratios
and two reverse gear ratios, depending on the position
of the high-low shift lever, Figure
14.
When the high-low shift lever is in the low range, 1st,
2nd, 3rd, 4th, and R1 gear ratios can be obtained with
the gearshift lever. When the high-low shift lever is in the
high range, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and R2 gear ratios can be
obtained with the gearshift lever.
POWER TAKE OFF
ATTACHING THE P.T.O.
1.
Stop the engine, shift the transmission levers to
neutral, set the parking brake and disengage the
P.T.O. lever.
2.
Attach the P.T.O. shield to the tractor, Figure 27.
3.
Remove the P.T.O. cap.
4.
Attach the equipment P.T.O. coupler to the tractor
P.T.O. output shaft. Make sure the equipment
P.T.O. shaft is properly aligned and that the coupler
is locked to the tractor P.T.O.
5.
Raise and lower the equipment to assure that
sufficient clearance exists.
OPERATING THE P.T.O.
1.
Start the engine.
2.
Engage the P.T.O. slowly to assure the driven
equipment is free of obstructions. Refer to page
12 and 13 for P.T.O. control information.
3.
Shift to the desired operating gear.
