Setting Up
Step 5: Install the Antenna
This section explains how to remotely install the antenna on your boat, car roof, or
wherever you plan on using the unit.
The antenna is detachable from the unit, so you can install the antenna and the
keyboard unit separately. Using the antenna extension cable (supplied), you can
place the antenna up to three meters (ten feet) from the unit.
To install the antenna and display/keyboard unit:
Determine the location for the antenna (page 22)
Disconnect the antenna from the unit (page 22)
Replace the antenna cable with the antenna extension cable (page 23)
Install the antenna remotely (page 24)
To help install the antenna and the display/keyboard unit, several optional
accessories are available, such as the MAK-IPS76 mount kit and the EXC-IPS7
antenna extension cable (7 m or 23 ft length).
Step 5A: Determine the location for the antenna
To ensure the best possibie satellite reception. position the antenna horizontally,
with no line-of-sight obstructions (see the figure below). The fewer obstructions, the
better the unit can receive the satellite signals.

Step 5B: Disconnect the antenna
To disconnect the antenna from the unit, loosen the screw first, then remove the
antenna.
Setting Up the Unit
Note:
Turn off the unit before installation.
Note:
The unit uses an integrated antenna and
receiver, which cannot be substituted with
antennas or cabies from the Sony IPS-360
or other manufacturers.
Note:
You cannot receive the GPS satellite
signals indoors.
