Using the System

The system is controlled through the Premier telephone keypad, or the optional infrared
remote control. The Premier telephone provides control functions only. A manual from
Polycom ships with the system that covers programming and features of the phone. The
microphones in each leg have been removed from the Premier telephone. In a typical
configuration, the Premier telephone would reside on a credenza or a side table with other
telephones. The Satellite typically resides in a rack or cabinet with the SM-02.

Remote Control

An infrared remote control is available as an option for control of the Premier. There
must be line of site between the Premier telephone and the remote control. The IR
sensors are located on the feet of the Premier telephone. The remote control is effective
to about 20 feet. An IR repeater will improve the coverage area of the remote or allow
the phone to be housed in a different room.

Echo Cancellation / Signal Processing

The system provides the following digital signal processing:
• Acoustic echo cancellation – self adapts instantly
• Noise reduction – reduces ambient noise (ex: HVAC, computer fan)
• Automatic gain control – automatically adjusts the microphone for softer or
louder voices
• Digital equalization – improves the incoming audio to reduce the "tinny" effect
of telephone lines
There are no adjustments that need to be made for echo cancellation or any of the above
signal processing.

Auto Mixing

The Satellite has an additional microphone input for larger rooms. The output of a
second SM-02 may be connected to this input. This input may also be used to highlight a
presentation area.
