SYSTEM
CONFIGURATION
When allaudio, v ideoandsystem connections h ave
beenmade, t herearea fewconfiguraSon adlustments
thatmustbe made. Atewminutes spentto correctly
configure a ndcalibrate the unitwillgreatly addtoyour
listening e xperience.
SpeakerSelectionand Placement
The placement of speakers ina multichannel home
theatersystem canhavea noticeable impact o nthe
quality of soundreproduced.
Nomatterwhichtype or brandof speakers is used,
the samemodelor brandof speaker s houldbe used
for the leftfront,centerandrightfrontspeakers. This
creates a seamless frontsoundstage a ndeliminates
the possibility o f distracting sonicdisturbances t hat
occurwhena soundmovesacrossmismatched f ront
channel s peakers.

Placement
Depending on thetypeofcenterchannel speaker i n
useandyourviewing device, p lacethe centerspeaker
either d irectlyabove or below yourTV, o r inthecenter
behind a perforated front-projection screen.
Oncethecenterchannel speaker i s installed, position
the frontleftandfrontrightspeakers s othattheyare
as farawayfromoneanother a sthe centerchannel
speaker i sfromthe preterred listening p osition. Ideally,
the frontchannel speakers s houldbeplacedsothat
theirfi_veeters areno morethan24" aboveor below
the lweeter inthe centerchannel speaker.
Depending o nthe spedficsof yourroomacoustics
andthe typeof speakers inuse,youmayfindthat
imaging is improved by moving the lettfrontandright
front speakers s lightly forward of thecenterchannel
speakeh If possible, adjustall frontloudspeakers
sothattheyareaimedat earheight w henyouare
seated inthe listening position.
Using theseguidelines, you'll f indthatit takessome

tofindthecorrect l ocation torthe%nt
speakers i nyourparticular installation. Don't b eafraid to
movethings around unfil t he system sounds correct.
Optimize y ourspeakers s othataudiotransitions across
the frontofthe mornsound smooth, a ndthatsounds

speaker c ompared to the leftandrightspeakers).
When the AVR435 is usedin 5.1-channel operation,
the preferred location forsurround speakem is onthe
sidewallsof theroom,at or slightly behindthelisten
ingposition. I na 7.1 channel system, b othsidesur
roundandbacksurround speakers a rerequired. The

Ifdipoletypespeakers a re usedon either t he sideor
rearwallsof themorn,pleasenotethatif thereare
arrowsonthe speakers t heyshould facethe frontof
the roomforthe sidespeakers, or towards the center
of the wallforthe rearspeakers.
Subwoofers p roduce nondirectional sound,sothey
maybe placedalmost a nywhere i na room. A ctual
placement shouldbe basedon roomsizeandshape
andthetypeof subwoofer u sed. O nemethod of find
ingtheoptimallocation for a subwoofer i sto beginby
placing it inthe frontof the room,about6 inches
froma wall,or nearthe frontcornerof the morn.
Another m ethodis to temporarily p lacethe subwoofer
at yournormal l istening position, a ndthenwalk
aroundtheroomuntilyoufind a spotwhere the sub
woofersounds best.Place the subwoefer i nthatspot.
Youshouldalsofollowthe instructions o f the sub
weofer'smanufacturer, or youmaywishto experi
mentwiththe bestlocation for a subweofer i nyour
listening room.
System Setup
Oncethespeakers havebeenplacedinthe roomand
connected, the remaining stepsinthe setupprocess
areto assign inputandoutputconnections, makeany
toneadjustments, select a surround mode,program
theAVR435's bassmanagement systemforthe type
of speakers usedinyoursystem, c alibrate theoutput
levels andsetthe delaytimesusedbythe surround
sauedprocessah
Although it is necessary t oassigninpuVoutput se_ngs
andsurround modechoices manually, werecommend
thatyou takeadvantage o f the power andprecision of
EzSet/EQ t o automatically selectandenterthe settings
forall otheraudioparameters. Thiswill notonlysave
youtime;it will ensure thatyourroomis calibrated a nd
equalized w ithan accuracy not possible whenthese
settings aremademanually.
Youarenowreadyto poweruptheAVR435 to begin
thesefinaladjustments.
