VDIButton:Thisbuttondoesnothaveanyrune
tien fortheAVR, b ut isprovided for youruseinpro
gramming the codesthatareusedto scroll u p or
downthrough the availabb inputson yourvideodis
play. T hisallowsyouto switch videoinputs thatare
directly connected t o yourvideodisplay. Alternatively,
youmayprogram anycompatible r emote codeinto
the "up"and"down"potionsof thisbutton. F orintor

DiscSkip Button:Thisbuttonhasno direct

the procesa of programming theremote. Press andhold
thisbutton for3 seconds to place the remote inthe
programming mode. O ncetheredLEDundertheSet

Light Button:Pressthisbull:on to activate the
remote's bacHight f oreaseof useindarkened rooms.
Multiroom Button:Press thisbuttonto begin
the process ofactivating t he multiroom system or to
change the inputor volume level f orthe second zone.

MacroButtons:Press t hesebuttons to store or
recall a "Macro", whichisa preprogrammed sequence
of commands s toredintheremote. ( See page46 for
moreinformation on macros.)
OSDButton:Press thisbuttonto activate or turn
off theOn-Screen D isplay ( OSD) system usedto setup
or adjust t he AVR435's parameters.
Night Mode Button:Press thisbuttonto acti
vatethe Nightmode. Thismodeisavailable i nspecially
encoded DolbyDigital s ources, andit preserves
dialogue (center c hannel) i ntelligibility at low volume
levels.
ToneControlButton:Thisbutton controls the
tonemodesettings, enabling adjustment of the bass
andttebleboost/cut. Y oumayalsouseit to takethe
tonecontrols out of thesignalpathcompletely f or
"flat"response. Thefirstpressof the buttondisplays a
t 0 NE T N message inthe Lower DisplayLine
[] andinthe on-screen display. Totakethe controls
out of thesignalpath,presseitherofthe ,A,/V
NavigationButtons _ untilthe display reads
T 0 NE 0 UT. Tochange the bassor trebleset-
tings,pressthe button againuntilthedesiredoption
appears inthe Lower DisplayLine [] andin the
on screendisplay andthenpresseitherof the A/V
NavigationButtons _ to enterthe desired boost

SleepButton:Press thisbultonto placethe unit
inthe Sleepmode.Afterthetimeshowninthe display,
theAVR435 willautomalmally go intothe Standby
mode.Eachpressof the buttonchanges t hetime until
turn-offinthe following cider:

AM/FM Button:Pressthisbuttonto selectthe
AVR435's tunerasthe listening choice. P ressi%this
buttonwhenthe tuneris already inusewillselect
belween the AMandFMbands.
TuningUp/DownButton:Press thisbutton
whenthetuneris inuseto change thestationto one
witha higher o r lower % quency. W henthetuneris in
the I1A NU AL / 11 0 N 0 mode, e achtap of the
Selector w ill increase o r decrease t he frequency b y
oneincrement. Whenthetunerreceives a strong-
enough signal f oradequate reception, 1 1 A NU AL
T UN El) willappear i nthe Lower DisplayLine
[] andinthe on-screen display. Whenthe tuneris in
the AU T 0 / S T E RE 0 mode,pressthe button
once,andthe tunerwillscanfor a station withaccept
ablesignal s trength. Whenthenexthighepor Iowep
frequency station witha strong-enough signalistuned,
the frequency scan will stopandthe Lower Display
Line [] andthe on screen display willindicate
A UT 0 T UN El). When an FMStereostationis
tuned,the display will readAU T 0 S T T UN ED.

ChannelUp/DownSelector: T hisbuttonhasno
function whentheAVRis beingcontrolled, but when
programmed for usewitha VCR, 1 1/, c ablebox,satel
litereceiver o r ethersimilar p roduct, i t willchange the

TransportPlayButtons:These buttonshave
nodirectfunction onthe AVR435, buttheyareused
whentheremoteis programmed fora compatible
DVD, CDor tapeplayer. P ressing t hesebuttons will
transmit a forwardor reverse playcommand,
according to thecapabilities o f the player being
controlled. I nthefactorydefault s etting, t hesebuttons
areprogrammed f orHarman Kardon DVD players so
thatyou maycontrol a eompallble p layer without
having to switchdevices.
DelaySelectButton:Thisbuttonselects
adjustments to theAN SyncDelay andthe individual
channel d isplays. Thefirstpressof the buttondisplays
an A / V SY NC I) E L A Y message inthe Lower
DisplayLine [] andinthe on-screen display, which
means thatyou maychange theamount o f timethat
all channels a redelayed together b ehindthevideo.
Thisenables youto compensate f orthe lossof lip
syncthatmaybe caused bydigital v ideoprocesaing
inyourdisplay or bytelevision stations. Tochange
theAN SyncDelay, p ressthe Set Button _ while
the A / V SY NC DE L A Y message is visible
andthenusethe A/V NavigationButton
to change the settingsothatthe sound andthe
videoimage areinsync. T ochange the delayfor
an indMdual outputchannel, p resa the A/V
NavigationButton _ untilthedesired channel
nameisshown,andthenpresstheSet Button Ii_.
Usethe A/V NavigationButtons_ to change
