SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
IMPORTANT N OTE: L isteners a reoftenconfused
aboutthe operation of the surround channels. While
someassume thatsoundshouldalways be coming
fromeachspeaker, mostof thetimetherewill be little
or nosoundinthe surround channels. Thisis because
theyareonlyusedwhena moviedirector or sound
mixerspecifically p lacessound thereto createambE
ence, a special e ffector to continue actionfromthe
frontof the roomto the realWhenthe outputlevels
areproperly set,it is normal f or surround speakers
to operate onlyoccasionally. Artificially increasing the
volume to the rearspeakers maydestroy the illusion
of an enveloping s oundfieldthatduplicates theway
youhear s ound ina movie theater o r concert hall,even
when making manual adjustments,
Before beginning t heoutputlevel a djustment process,
makecertain thatallspeaker c onnections havebeen
properly m ade. T hes*/stem volume should be setto the
level t hatyouwilluseduring a typical l istening s ession.
Werecommend t hatEzSet!EQ b e usedwhentheAVR
isfirstinstalled to establish the initial l evel s ethngs.

different s peaker t hanthe oneindicated on the menu
screen turntheAVR435 off using the Main Power
Switch [] andcheckthespeaker w iringor connec
tionsto external p ower amplifiers t o makecertain that
eachspeaker i s connected t o the correct o utputtar
minal.When youhaveverified thatall speakers a re
connected t o the correct o utputterminal, t urnthe
AVR435 backonandreturnto thismenuto resume
the channel adjustment procedure. Ifanyspeaker c on
nections werechanged wealsorecommend t hatyou
rerunEzSeVEQ b eforemaking anymanual c alibration
adjustments.
Afferchecking for speaker p lacement, letthetest
noisecffculate again, a ndlisten to seewhichchannels
soundlouder t hanthe others, U singthefrontleft
speaker a sa reference, pressthe _/_-Navigation

on theremote to bringall speakers t o the
samevolume level. W henthe ,/_, NavigationButton

the channel beingadjusted t o giveyoutimeto make

Continue t o adjust t he individual channels untilthe
volume level s ounds the samefromeachspeakeL
Adlustments shouldbe made withthe _/_, Navigation

on the remote only, N OT the mainvolume
controls, if youareusing a sound-pressure level ( SPL)
meterforprecise level a djustment, setthevolume so
thatthe meterreads 75dB,C Weighti% Slow.
Whenallchannels havean equal v olume level, t he

Inaddition to having the testtonecimulate a utomafi

it from onechannel to thenextmanually. Thisallows
youto makecalibration a diuslments, but to havemore
control o verthewaythe testtoneis moved among
the channels.

Whenmaking channel outputadjustments without t he
internal testtonewestrongly recommend t hatyouuse
a testdiscin the"repeat" m odeon yourDVD or CD
player s o thatthesignalbeingusedis constant
throughout theadjustment process.
Theoutputlevelsmayalsobeadjusted atanytime
using the remote control a ndsemiOSDsystem. T o
adjustthe outputlevels in thisfashion, p resstheTest
Button 0.
As soonasthe buttonis pressed, t he
testtonewillbeginto circulate a s indicated e arlier. The
correct c hannel f romwhichthe testnoiseshouldbe
heard will be shown inthe lowerthirdof the video
screen andinthe Lower DisplayLine _"_lj. Whilethe
testnoiseis circulating, the properchannel position
will alsobe indicated inthe Speaker/Channel Input
Indicators[]
bya blinking lelterwithinthe correct
channel.

playor on screen. O ncethe buttons arereleased, the

notavaihble intheSurround Offmodes.
Youmayhave the output l evelsremain the sameforall
inputs or to beadjusted d ifferently f oreach(orany)
input. W hile mostlisteners p refer t o keepthesameout
putlevels forall sources, youmaywishto raise or lower
somechannels, particularly the subwoofer output f ora
specific source suchasaCDthatisprimarily u sedfor
music playback.
Toenterindividual settings fora specific input, f imt
makesurethatyou haveeitherrunEzSet/EQ a nd/or
made anydesired manual t rimadjustments to seta
baseline f orall channels. Afterthatisdone,pressthe
