CONFIGURING THE REMOTE

Changing Devices
Inthe factory default s etlngs, t heAVRremoteis
programmed s othatthe commands t ransmitted
correspond t o thedeviceselected bypressing one
ofthe InputSelectors_]P. Thisis logical, a syou
want t heremote to control thedevice youhave selected
However, in somecircumstances youmayhavecon
figured yoursystem sothatthe devices connected to
theAVR435 do not correspond t o the default d evice
settings a ndthe legends printedonthe remote. F or
example, if yoursystemhastwoVCRs youmaycon-
nectthesecond VCR to theVID2 input. T hereisno
probbmindoingthat,but innormal o peration the
commands i ssued afterselecting theVID2 inputare
fora television, nota VCR.
TheAVRremote a41ows youto correct t hatsituation
through the "Changing D evices" p rocess. Thisenables
youto assign thecodesfromonetypeof deviceto
adifferent b utton. F orexample, in thestepsbelow,
wewill explain howto prog/am theVID2 buttons t o
provide thecommands to operate aVCR.Ofcourse,
youmayprogram the remote to haveanyof the
devices takeon the codesetof anyotherdevice, a s
yoursystem requires. And,withtheAVRremota's
"Rename" functionyou canevenchange the way
thenameof the device appears on the remote's LCD
display sothatyouseeexactly whichcommands a re
beingsent.
Toprogram the buttonsnormally a ssigned to one
device forthe commands ofanother, followthese
steps:
1. Pressandholdthe ProgramButton @ for
aboutthreeseconds whilethemessage shown
in Figure 24 appears inthe remote's LOD

whenthe redlightunderthe Set Button
appears.
2.Theremote's M,_Itl MEtlU message (Fig. 2 5),
willappear i nthe ICD display andthe Set Button

5. Oncethe newdeviceieselected, t heremainder of

identical to thewaya deviceis programmed using
manual entry. C ontinue the process asoutlined in
the nextfewsteps,remembering thatif the codes
for yourspecific devicearenotfound,you may
selectanybrandandthen"learn" t he proper
codesintotheAVRremote usingthe process out
lined on page44. Tobeginthe process, startby
selecting the brandof device, a sshownin Fig.28.

6. Thenextstepis important, asit determines w hich
codeswill operate thesourcedevice or display.

pressandrelease the NumericKeys_
oneat
atime,starting withthe "1" Button qiD. After
youpressthe "1" Button qiD, the remota's
LCDscreen willbrieflygo blank asthe codeis
beingtransmitted, butyouwillseethe "transmit"
iconinthe upperrightcorner of the display to
serveasconfirmation t hatthe remote is sending
outcommands.
7. Afteryou pressandrelease the number k ey,
watch the devicebeingprogrammed t o see
whether i t turnsoft Asshowninthe instructions
thatwill appear o n the nextmenuscreen(Fig30),
presstheSet Button _,
andthenskipto
Step9. Ifthe unitdoesmtturn off,proceed to
thenextstep.

remote doesnottumoff afteryou havepressed
the "1" Button _,
continue Steps6 and7 by
pressing theavailable numeric keysshownunSl
thedeviceturnsoft Ifthe device stilldoesnotturn
offafterall choices havebeentried,the codefor
thisspecific deviceis not intheAVRremote
library underthatbrandname. I fthatis thecase,
wesuggest t hatyoupressthe Set Button
to accept t hecodesfromanother b randsothat
theprogramming i scompleted, but remember
thatyouwillthenhave to program the remote
manually b yfollowing the Learning Commands
insl_uctions on page44.
9. Whenthe device beingprogrammed d oesturnoff
aftera numeric keyhasbeenpressed, you must
presstheSet Button _
withinfiveseconds to
enterthe setting intothe remota's memory. After
youpresstheSet button, t hetop lineof the LCD
display will readSe(JIttG... andthenthe word
S_L_ED will flash fourtimesinthe center o f the
bottomline.
10.Whenthe codesaresavedtheremote winreturn
to normal o peration, andwhenever youpress
the Input SelectorButton _
thatwasjust
programmed, thedisplay willshowtheoriginal
devicefypecodeatthe tarleftsideof the display,
withthename of thenewcodesettypeinbrackets.
Forexample, thedisplay willreadTU<-L_CR in
ourexample of replacing theTVcodeswiththose
fora VCR,
Macro Programming
Macros enabbyouto easily repeat f requently used
combinations of mullpleremotecontrol c ommands
withthe touchof a single button. O ncea macrois
programmed, youmaysendupto 20 commands w ith
onepressof the Power Onor Macrobuttons. Thiswill
g_eatly s implify the process of lsrningon yoursystem,
