TheNightmodeisa feature of DolbyDigital thatuses
special p rocessing t o preserve the dynamic rangeand
fullintelligibility of a moviesoundtrack w hilereducing
the peaklevel. T hisprevents a bruptly loudt_ansitions
from disturbing o thers, w ithout r educing the sonic
impact o f a digital s ource. TheNightmodeisonly
available whenspecially e ncoded DolbyDigital s ignals
are played.
ToadjusttheNightmodesetting, m akecertain thatthe
cursoris on the N I GHT lineof the D0 L B Y
menu.Next, p ress,/I, NavigationButton _
to
choose between the following settings, astheyappear
intheon screen display:
0 F F: When0 F F is highlighted, the Nightmode
will not function.
MI D:When MI D ishighlighted,
a mild compres
sion willbeapplied,
MA X: WhenMAX ishighlighted, a moresevere
compression algorithm will be applied.
Werecommend t hatyouselectthe MI D settingas
a starting pointandchange to the MAX settinglatar,
if desired.
TheNightmodemayalsobeadjusted directly any
time a DolbyDigital s ourceisplaying by pressing
the NightMode Button _.
Whenthe buttonis
pressed, D - R AN GE willappear i nthe lowerthird
of thevideoscreenandinthe Lower DisplayLine

When a DTS sourceis playing, the choiceof modes
for 7.1 systams w ill varyaccording to thetypeof

scrollthrough thechoices thatareavailable foryour
system andthe program inuse.TheDTSNeo:6Music
modeisavailable withanalog andPCM digitalstereo
sources andthe DTSNeo:6Cinema modeis available
withanalog matrix surround encoded sources to deliver
an enhanced 5 .1 channel soundfield.
Whenthe5.1 configuration i s inuse,theAVRwill
automatically select t he 5.1 vemion of DTSprocessing
whena DTS datastroamis selected. Whenthe
6.1/7.1 modeis selected, t he DTSESDiscrote mode
willautomatically beactivated whena DTSsourcewith
the ESDiscrote "flag"is in use. W hena nonESDTS

5.1 Musicor Cinema. They workbestwithlwo chan-
nelmusic, s urround-encoded programs o r standard
lwo channel p rogramming o f anytype,respectively.

Using EzSetYEQ
TheAVR435 uses Harman Ka_don's EzSet/EO t ach
nology to automatically configure y oursystem to deliver
the bestpossible performance b ased on yourspecific
speaker s election, wherethespeakers a replacedin
the roomandthe acoushc influences i nyourlistening
room.Byusinga seriesof testsignals andthe pro
cessing powerof theTexas Instruments D A610 digital
signalprocessor, EzSWEQ eliminates t he needfor
manual adjustment of speaker " size", crossover, delay
andoutputlevel s ettings whileit addsthe powerof a
mull1 bandparametric e qualizer t o smooth out thefre
quency settings foroptimal s oundreproduction.
Inaddition to making systemsetupquickandeasy,
EzSet/EQ is moreprecise thanmanual s eltings. With
EzSet/EQ y ou areableto calibrata yoursystemina
fraction of the timeit wouldtaketo enterthe settings
manua,y, andwithrosulta thatrivalthoseachieved with
expensive t estequipment andtimeconsuming p roce
dures. T heendresult i sa system calibration profile
thatenables yournewreceiver t o deliverthebestpos
siblesoundno matter w hattypeof speakers y ouhave

Beforestarting the EzSeVEQ p rocess, makecertain
thatyou haveconnected a ll speakers f oryoursystem
andthatyouhaveboththe EzSeYEQ m icrophone a nd
the extender r odhandy. I fyou have a standard camera
tripod,attachtheextender r odto the tripod,andthen
screwthe microphone t o the top of therod. Place the
tripodat yourprimary listening position, at leastthree
feetfromthe nearost speaker a ndadjustit sothat
microphone i s at least t hreefeetaboveearlevel. I f
youdo nothavea tripod,simply screwthe extender
