System Design
When installing cables:
Cables should be fixed on cable trays or located in enclosed ducts.
Cable trays or ducts should provide protection against oil, dirt and mechanical damage.
Cables must be installed away from high current carrying power cables such as engine or generator
starter cables.
Where the cables must pass through an area exposed to moisture, oil or dirt, use a fully sealed duct.
Cable routes used for length measurement should be recorded to ensure the same route is used during
installation.
Allow enough spare cable length so that the station control panel and the control input devices can be
removed for servicing and commissioning with the cables still connected.
Protect the cable against contact with sharp edges.
Before running the cables, protect the connectors with packaging material (bubble wrap, cloth etc.)
tightly tied. This will protect the connectors from mechanical damage and swarf. This protection should
be left in place until it is time to connect the module.
Note any special requirements by the Classification Authorities or Coastguard regulations regarding the
installation of cables.
e.g: Cables for port and starboard jet controls may need to be installed on different sides of the vessel.

Power supplies

Single and twin jet vessels must be provided with separate, independent primary and
secondary power supplies.
Note the following:
A reliable battery supply is essential for safe operation.
Two independent power supplies are required. A primary and a secondary backup supply. Always use a
separate battery for each supply.
Primary and secondary power must be supplied to each jet.
The minimum cable size for the power feed is 10AWG. For smaller boats with short cable runs, this can
be reduced to 16AWG.
Provide a junction box near the jet unit so that the primary and secondary supplies can be connected
directly to the jet wiring loom.
Primary and secondary supplies to each jet should be fused with a 10A fuse in each line.
Power supply wiring must be via the ignition switch, a separate switch or circuit breaker so that the
control system can be isolated when not in use. This will prevent battery drain when the engines are not
running.
For a 12V vessel a marine grade 12-24V DC/DC converter is required.
Recommended converters:
Victron Orion 12/24-10
Mastervolt Magic 12/24-10
This supply must be switched with the control system supplies to prevent battery drain when the engine
is off.
