8-13. Troubleshooting

A. Welding
Trouble
No weld output; generator power output
okay at AC receptacles.
No weld output, or generator power out-
put at AC receptacles.
Erratic weld output.
High weld output.
Low weld output.
Low open-circuit voltage.
No remote fine amperage control.
No 24 volt AC output at Remote recep-
tacle RC14.
Smart Feeder is not powered, display
lights are not ON.
Smart Feeder displays dashes and will
not power up after 60 seconds.
Smart Feeder displays Cbl Err.

Have Factory Authorized Service Agent check main rectifier and main control module PC1.
Reset supplementary protector CB8 (see Section 8-10). Check for faulty remote device connected to
RC14.
Check and secure connections to Remote Control receptacle RC14 (see Section 5-11).
Check Voltmeter/Ammeter help displays (see Section 8-12).
Disconnect equipment from generator power receptacles during start-up.
Reset supplementary protector CB3. (see Section 8-10).
Check fuse F1, and replace if open (see Section 8-10). If F1 is open, have Factory Authorized Service
Agent check the field excitation circuit.
Check Voltmeter/Ammeter help displays (see Section 8-12).
Have Factory Authorized Service Agent check brushes and slip rings and field excitation circuit.
Check and tighten connections inside and outside unit.
Be sure connection to work piece is clean and tight.
Use dry, properly stored electrodes.
Remove excessive coils from weld cables.
Have Factory Authorized Service Agent check brushes and slip rings.
Have Factory Authorized Service Agent check main control module PC1 and hall device HD1.
Check fuse F1, and replace if open (see Section 8-10). If F1 is open, have Factory Authorized Service
Agent check the rotor.
Have Factory Authorized Service Agent check main control module PC1, field excitation circuit, and main
rectifier.
Repair or replace remote control device.
Check and secure connections to Remote Amperage Adjust receptacle RC14 (see Section 5-11).
Reset supplementary protector CB8 (24 volt) (see Section 8-10).
Check that Smart Feeder is properly connected directly to weld studs and that power cables are intact.
See Section 5-9B.
Verify VRD is OFF if trying to connect in STICK mode. See Section 5-9B or 6-5.
Verify contactor is ON using a connected remote when connecting Smart Feeder in remote contactor
modes. See Section 5-9B.
If Ac.c is shown on the voltmeter display check power cables for loose connections or uncoil/shorten pow-
er cables.
If Ac.c is not shown on the voltmeter display, ensure the power source is an SF model.
Check that power cables are more than three feet from other power cables of active welding systems.
This is a Cable Error. Check power cables for loose connections or uncoil/shorten power cables. It may
take a few seconds for the cable error to clear after making a change.
