About Thread Sealants

Checklist
Your QuickJack comes with a bottle of Liquid Thread Sealant. Thread Sealant lubricates and fills the
gaps between the Fitting threads and leaves no residue that could contaminate the Hydraulic Fluid.
When Hydraulic Fittings are assembled and tightened properly, there should be no Hydraulic Fluid
leaks during equipment operation and no internal fluid contamination to disrupt the performance of
your QuickJack.
The same goes for Thread Seal Tape (like Teflon® Tape) or Liquid TPFE (Thread Sealer). Both are
approved Thread Sealants for QuickJack, and if used correctly, there should be no evidence of
Hydraulic Fluid leaks during equipment operation or Hydraulic Fluid contamination that could cause
equipment malfunction.
To apply Liquid Thread Sealant:
1. The ambient temperature when applying thread sealant should be between +46°F and +83°F /
+8°C and +28°C.
2. Verify the Fittings and connectors you are going to use are clean and dry.
If you are adding Thread Sealant to a Fitting or connector that has already been used with a
different sealant, use a wire brush to thoroughly remove the old sealant before adding more.
3. Apply a small amount of Thread Sealant to the first four threads (skipping the first thread) of the
Fitting.
WARNING
You only need a small amount because the sealant spreads to the other threads as it is tightened
into place. If you apply too much, the excess liquid will be pushed out when the Fitting is tightened;
use a rag to wipe the excess.
4. Hand tighten the Fitting into the connector, then fully secure by making 2-3 full turns with the
appropriately sized wrench.
5. Allow a minimum of 24 hours curing time, before pressurizing the system.
Liquid Thread Sealant or Thread Seal Tape?
We have found that much QuickJack criticism or
warranty-related claims were caused by Hydraulic
Fluid contamination, with evidence of Thread Seal
Tape particles inside the Power Unit components
and the Reservoir.
To prevent this contamination, QuickJack is supplying a Liquid Thread Sealant in lieu of Thread Seal
Tape. If you want to use Thread Seal Tape over Liquid Thread Sealant, by all means, use what you are
most familiar with. However, you must carefully read and use the following instructions.
Important Notes:
Thread Seal Tape must wrap Clockwise around the threads for it to work properly. Some
customers incorrectly wrap it backward, resulting in the Tape unwinding as the Fitting is being
tightened.
Use only 2-3 turns of Thread Seal Tape. Never allow Thread Seal Tape to overlap the
end of the NPT Fitting threads; the overlapping Tape will separate during tightening and
