There are a number of other choices, however:
The first three choices for the sidechain input are SELF, SIDE, and BOTH. SELF is explained above,
but SIDE refers to the other side of a coincident stereo pair. This might require some explanation:
When the SX-1 links a pair of channels in stereo, it must do this by selecting an odd-and-even
coincident pair — meaning channels 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, etc. Thus, channels 2 and 3 cannot be
linked as a stereo pair (although they can obviously be grouped together in a fader group).
Selecting SIDE from the sidechain input pulldown menu selects the signal from the other half of the
stereo pair for the key input — even if they have not been linked. As an example, if channel 8 s
compressor had selected SIDE for the key input, the signal from channel 7 would trigger the threshold
of channel 8 s compressor. Inversely, selecting SIDE for channel 7 s compressor would mean that the
key input for that compressor would come from channel 8.
Thus, selecting BOTH as the sidechain input results in the dynamics processor comparing the input
from both channels, with the threshold triggered from the highest level of the two signals (not a mono
sum). This was done to retain the stereo image.
The next choice in the list, Sidechain Channel, displays another pulldown menu containing all of the
channels in the same bank of 16. This is telling you that the sidechain input must come from a channel
that sits in the same bank — meaning that channel 7 can use any of channels 1-16 for it s sidechain
input, but not 17-32. The reason for this lies in the fact that the SX-1 s DSP s arrange the mixer in
banks of 16 on a chip, and the sidechain can only come from a channel on the same physical DSP.
As a final note on sidechain dynamics, if frequency-dependent compression is desired (for de-essing or
other types) make sure that both channels have the processor order set to EQ-Dynamics in the Channel
page. This is due to the fact that the point where the signal is referenced for sidechain operation is pre-
dynamics, so the EQ must come first if you want it to modulate the threshold (and thus decide which
frequencies are compressed and which are left alone).

Improvements and changes were made in library entries

The following behaviors have changed in V1.5 with regards to the storing of new library entries:
1.
Pressing New or Store results in a new library entry with the name of the algorithm of the
currently loaded effect.
2.
When importing an effects library, the new library index is calculated by incrementing the last
user preset that is currently available.
3.
Instead of creating a generic New Entry when NEW is selected in any of the libraries, the entires
are now library specific. This means that they follow the library in which they are created, thus
New DYN Library , New EQ Library , New Routing Library , and New Scene .
4.
When an effect is not loaded the NEW and STORE buttons are greyed out.
