Updates to Chapter 6. Maintaining the Library
Updating Tape Drive Firmware
Complete drive firmware upgrades to speed data backup and improve performance.
Note:
The drive firmware tape is not a data tape, and it cannot be copied.
Store the firmware tape away from other tapes that contain data.
Before you begin a drive upgrade, Spectra Logic recommends that you clean the
drives; this ensures a smooth and rapid upgrade.
1. Make sure that the library power is on, and that no tapes are in any of the library's
drives.
2. Stop any backup processes that are running to the library.
3. Make sure the carousel has at least one empty slot.
4. From the main screen, select Config > More > More.
5. Record the settings listed for Emulate 1/2, Emulate 3/4, and SCSI Bus Mode.
6. Return to the main screen, then select the drive to be updated.
7. Select Upgrade; the library asks you to put the firmware tape in the library door.
The library's picker inserts the tape into the drive selected for upgrade. After the
upgrade completes, the robot returns the firmware tape to the library door.
8. Repeat Steps 4 through 7 for every drive to be upgraded.
9. Confirm the success of the drive upgrade by selecting one of the drives that was
just upgraded, then select Reset.
The drive resets in about 30 seconds, and the version number of the drive
firmware displays. Confirm that the Rev field shows the updated firmware
version.
If the Drive Does Not Show the Latest Firmware Level....
1. Reset the drive again.
2. If the drive still does not show the correct firmware level, repeat the upgrade
procedure.
3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 as necessary for every updated drive.
Note:
Once each drive has been reset, the drives may report a Drive
Fault. If so, reset the drive emulation for each upgraded drive,
using the information you recorded before beginning the upgrade.
