Troubleshooting

A number of symptoms and possible causes for engine disturbances are described in the table below. If faults or
hitches arise that you cannot solve alone, you must always get in touch with your Volvo Penta dealer.

Symptom and possible cause

The diagnostic button indicator flashes
Engine can not be stopped
Starter motor does not rotate
Starter motor rotates slowly
Engine does not start
Engine starts but stops again
Engine is difficult to start
Engine does not reach correct operating speed at full throttle
Engine knocks
Engine runs unevenly
Engine vibrates
High fuel consumption
Black exhaust smoke
Blue or white exhaust smoke
Oil pressure too low
Coolant temperature too high
No charge, or poor charge
1. Flat batteries
2. Poor contact/broken electrical ca-
ble
3. Main switch turned off
4. Control lever not in neutral/control
position not activated
5. A fuse/circuit breaker has tripped
6. Lack of fuel
7. Blocked fuel filter/supply pump
8. Air in fuel system
9. Water/contamination in fuel
