Fuel system. Bleeding
The fuel system must be bled e.g. after changing fuel
filters, if the fuel tank has been run dry and after long
stops.
1. Place a receptacle under the fuel filters and open
the bleed screw (1) on the filter bracket.
2. Pump fuel using the hand pump (2) until the fuel
running out is free from air bubbles. Tighten the
bleed screw while fuel is running out.
3. Pump another 10–20 times with the bleed screw
closed to attain a good feed pressure.
4. Make sure there are no leaks.
5. No other bleeding is normally required but if
the engine will not start, the injection pump
must be bled as follows:
Detach the connection (3) and pump with the hand
pump until the fuel running out is free from air.
Tighten the connection while fuel is running out.
Pump another 10–20 times to attain a good feed
pressure.
Fuel filters. Change
Place a receptacle under the filters and clean the fil-
ter bracket.
Do not forget to leave the old filters to a destruction
plant.
1. Unscrew the filters. Note. Place a plastic bag
around the filter to prevent fuel spills.
2. Make sure the new filters are absolutely clean and
that the gaskets are undamaged. Lightly moisten
the gaskets with oil.
3. Screw on the new filters by hand until the gaskets
come into contact with the filter console. Then
screw a further half turn, not any more!
4. Bleed the fuel system as described above.
5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
