If you want to check the bicycle yourself, lift the front wheel and rock the bicycle
left and right using the handlebars. If you feel a thump with every movement of the
handlebars, you probably have a loose steering.
If you feel a sticking or rough feeling when turning, it is possible that the steering is
too tight. In any case, have it checked by a qualified mechanic.
Grab a pedal and swing it to and from the centerline of the bike; then do the same
with the other pedal. Does it look like something is loose? If so, have it checked by
a qualified bicycle mechanic.
Take a look at the brakes. If they make strange noises or no longer brake like they
did at first, it's time to have them replaced by a qualified bicycle mechanic.
Check the control cables and cable routing carefully.
If you find any rust, they are loose or worn, have them replaced by a qualified bi-
cycle mechanic.
Squeeze each contiguous pair of spokes on each side of the wheel between your
thumb and forefinger. If any feel loose, have the wheel tension and alignment
checked by a qualified bicycle mechanic.
Check the tires for excessive wear, or for cuts or dents. If necessary, have them
replaced by a qualified bicycle mechanic.
Check the rims for excessive wear and for dents, bumps and scratches. If you ob-
serve any damage to the rim, consult a qualified bicycle mechanic.
Check that all parts and fittings are still secure and tighten any that are not.
Check the frame for scratches, cracks or discoloration, especially in the area around
all tube joints, handlebars, stem and seat post. These are signs of stress fatigue and
indicate that a part is at the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced.
Like all mechanical components, the EPAC is subject to wear and tear and to high
stresses. Different materials and components can react to wear or fatigue in diffe-
rent ways. If the expected life of a component has been exceeded, it could fail sud-
denly, possibly causing injury to the rider. Any form of crack, scratch or discoloration
in highly stressed areas indicates that the component has come to life and must
be replaced.
The weighted emission sound pressure level at the driver's ear is less than 70 dB(A).
