3.6 Chassis Components

Removing Power from the System

Before performing some setup or maintenance tasks, use the following procedure to ensure
that power has been removed from the system.
Powering Down the System
1. Use the operating system to power down the node, following the on-screen prompts.
2. After the system has completely shut-down, carefully grasp the head of the power cord
and gently pull it out of the back of the power supply. If your system has dual power
supplies, remove the cords from both power supplies.
3. Disconnect the cords from the power strip or wall outlet.

Removing the Top Covers

Mid-chassis Cover

The mid-chassis cover can be removed to access the mid-chassis drives or fans while the
server continues to operate.
Removing the Mid-chassis Cover
1. Remove the two screws securing each side of the cover
2. Push in the release buttons, then lift the cover.
Caution: Do not operate the for long periods of time without the covers. They are important
for system cooling.
