REMOVING THE CLUTCH

1. Remove:
• Clutch cover
TIP
Loosen each bolt 1/4 of a turn at a time, in stag-
es and in a crisscross pattern. After all of the
bolts are fully loosened, remove them.
2. Straighten the clutch boss nut staked point
"a".
3. Loosen:
• Clutch boss nut "1"
TIP
While holding the clutch boss "2" with the univer-
sal clutch holder "3", loosen the clutch boss nut.

4. Remove:
• Clutch boss nut "1"
• Conical spring washer "2"
• Clutch boss assembly "3"
TIP
There is a built-in damper between the clutch
boss and the clutch plate. It is not necessary to
remove the wire circlip "4" and disassemble the
built-in damper unless there is serious clutch
chattering.

AND BALANCER DRIVEN GEAR
1. Straighten the lock washer tabs.
2. Remove:
• Balancer driven gear 1 nut "1"
• Primary drive gear nut "2"
• Balancer driven gear 2 nut "3"
TIP
• Place an aluminum plate "4" between the teeth
of the balancer driven gear 1 "5" and balancer
drive gear "6", then loosen the nut "1".
• Place an aluminum plate "4" between the teeth
of the balancer driven gear 2 "7" and balancer
drive gear "6", then loosen the nut "3".
• Place an aluminum plate "4" between the teeth
of the balancer drive gear "6" and balancer
driven gear 2 "7", then loosen the nut "2".

CHECKING THE FRICTION PLATES

The following procedure applies to all of the fric-
tion plates.
1. Check:
• Friction plate
Damage/wear → Replace the friction plates
as a set.
2. Measure:
• Friction plate thickness
Out of specification → Replace the friction
plates as a set.
