!
• Poison hazard. Et hylene glycol is t oxic. Do
not use et hylene glycol.
• Never use aut om ot ive or st andard glycol
ant ifreeze, even et hylene glycol m ade for
hydronic syst em s.
• Et hylene glycol can at t ack gasket s and seals
used in hydronic syst em s.
• Do not use pet roleum based cleaning or
sealing com pounds boiler syst em .
• Do not fill boiler or boiler system with softened
wat er.
• Use only inhibit ed propylene glycol solut ions
certified by fluid manufacturer as acceptable
for use wit h closed wat er heat ing syst em .
• Thoroughly clean and flush any system that
used glycol before inst alling new Boiler.
• Provide user wit h Mat erial Safet y Dat a Sheet
(MSDS) on fluid used.
Boiler rat ed at 50 psig ( 3.45 kPa)
N o t e
m axim um allowable working pressure.
Boiler provided wit h 30 psig ( 2.06 kPa)
safet y relief valve.
Syst em pressure above 43 psi [ 2.96 bar]
N o t e
WILL result in boiler shut t ing down.
6 .1 Genera l
• Prim ary/ Secondary piping required.
• I nst all piping in accordance wit h aut horit y having
j urisdict ion.
• Support syst em piping and safet y relief valve
discharge piping. Boiler's int ernal piping can be
dam aged if subj ect ed t o excessive weight .
NOTICE
The int ended use of t he int ernal heat exchanger
pum p is a boiler loop. Do not use as a prim ary
syst em pum p.
• Size cent ral heat ing pum p ( and dom est ic hot wat er
pum p, if used) for syst em requirem ent s only.
I nt ernal heat exchanger pum p com pensat es for
pressure drop t hrough boiler int ernal piping and
heat exchanger.
• Thoroughly clean and flush system before
connect ing t o boiler.
• I f oil is present in syst em wat er, use approved
det ergent t o wash syst em .
• I t is necessary t o sem i- annually check t he wat er
qualit y of cent ral heat ing syst em s.
6 - H YD RON I C PI PI N G
• Manufact urer recom m ends inst allat ion of m agnet ic
dirt separat or in t he hydronic syst em where t here
are cast iron or st eel com ponent s, or where t he
previous boiler was a cast iron heat exchanger.
The abrasive, extremely fine sediment is difficult
t o rem ove and can deposit ont o heat exchange
surfaces and accum ulat e in pum p cavit ies causing
reduced efficiency and premature wear.
• Flush syst em t o rem ove any solid obj ect s such as
metal chips, fibers, or Teflon tape, etc.
• Flush syst em unt il wat er runs clean and piping is
free of sedim ent .
• Use purge valve to flush zoned systems, each zone
separat ely. I f purge valves and isolat ion valves
are not inst alled, inst all t hem t o properly clean t he
syst em .
• When purging inst allat ions t hat include st anding iron
radiat ors and syst em s wit h m anual vent s at high
point s, st art wit h nearest m anual air vent . Open t he
vent until water flows out, then close vent. Repeat
t his procedure, working t oward furt hest air vent .
• I nst all a basket st rainer if large am ount s of sedim ent
is present . Keep basket clear of sedim ent build up.
• Ensure piping in t he heat ing syst em has an oxygen
barrier.
N o t e
6 .2 Specia l Condit ions
• Syst em piping exposed t o freezing condit ions: Use
inhibited propylene glycol solutions certified by fluid
m anufact urer for use wit h closed wat er heat ing
syst em . Do not use aut om ot ive or et hylene glycol.
• Boiler inst alled above radiat ion level ( or as required
by aut horit y having j urisdict ion) . I nt egral low wat er
pressure swit ch is provided in boiler.
• Boiler used in connect ion wit h refrigerat ion syst em .
I nst all piping in parallel wit h boiler, wit h appropriat e
valves t o prevent chilled m edium from ent ering
boiler.
• Syst em piping connect ed t o heat ing coils locat ed
in air handling unit exposed t o refrigerat ed air
circulation. Install flow control valves or other
aut om at ic m eans t o prevent gravit y circulat ion of
boiler wat er during cooling cycle.
• Boiler used t o provide heat t o fan coil unit , which
also cont ains a refrigerat ion coil, precaut ions should
t aken t o prevent t he hot wat er coil from freezing.
Consider it em s such as a freeze sensor on t he hot
wat er coil and/ or low am bient cont rols on t he air
condit ioning unit . I t is m anufact urer recom m ended
t o inst all a drip pan whenever t here is a risk of
dam age t o t he area below a fan coil as a result of a
wat er leak.
3 2
Do not expose boiler and condensat e
piping t o freezing t em perat ures.
