The castors and front forks

The castors on the front of the electric wheelchair and the front forks with which these are attached, need to move
and rotate smoothly to provide good control when driving your electric wheelchair. That is why it is important to
check the castors and front forks regularly for the following points;
• Check if the nut is screwed on tightly. It should not be loose, but should also not be screwed on too tight.
When it is too loose, it will cause the castors to vibrate or they may even become unnattached. If the nut
is screwed on too tight, the balls in the ball bearing will be immobilised, causing it to be hard to steer the
wheelchair;
• Check the front fork housing of the castors for wear.
If one of the above points deviates from normal, contact the dealer where you bought your electric wheelchair. Only
your dealer can make any repairs to the castors or front forks.

The upholstery

The upholstery is an important part of your electric wheelchair. Torn or worn upholstery cannot provide proper
support, making driving the wheelchair an uncomfortable experience. Checking your upholstery is very important.
Check the upholstery regularly for the following points:
• Check if the outer material has holes, tears or worn spots;
• Check if the upholstery is still attached properly to the chair's frame.
If one of the above points deviates from normal, contact the dealer where you bought your electric wheelchair. Only
your dealer can make any repairs to the upholstery.

Cleaning the electric wheelchair

Cleaning your electric wheelchair is important and should be done regularly. The best way to clean your Excel
E-Smart is described below.
• Clean the upholstery, the frame and any plastic components of the wheelchair with mild soap and water.
Never use abrasive cleaners. These can damage the paint on the frame. Also never use a pressure washer or
steamer to clean the wheelchair;
• Treat the frame regularly with wax to protect it from moisture and dirt. Never use a wax that contains solvents
or abrasive material, toxic chemicals or silicone spray;
• Always dry the electric wheelchair thoroughly after cleaning it, or after other exposure to moisture, for
example after driving in the rain.
