Maintenance

Your Excel E-Smart electric wheelchair requires maintenance regularly. This is neccessary to provide maximum

durability and user comfort. A badly maintained electric wheelchair will exhibit technical problems sooner, will ride

less smooth and if the neglect is extensive, will be excluded from warranty. Preventative maintenance is therefore

very important. We advise that you have your electric wheelchair checked by a Van Os Medical qualified dealer at

least once a year. This dealer will use only Excel replacment parts whenever replacement is neccessary. This yearly

inspection will help your wheelchair to function correctly for years to come.

There is much that you can do yourself to keep your electric wheelchair in optimum condition. By checking your

wheelchair from time to time and doing small maintenance tasks yourself wherever neccessary, you increase the

durability of your wheelchair. In the next paragraphs we describe these small maintenance actions in detail.

8.1

Check the tyres of your electric wheelcair regularly for wear. If they appear very worn down, it is time to have the

tyres replaced.

8.1.1

Polyurethane (PU) tyres are leakproof. These are used more and more on electric wheelchairs. You can recognise

them by the lack of air valves. The big advantage of these PU tyres is that they do not need to be inflated and

cannot leak. PU tyres are however prone to wear and tear. So do check the tread of the tyre regularly.

8.2

The frame is the base of your electric wheelchair. That is why it needs to be in good condition. Check the frame for

the following points;

Check if the electric wheelchair moves in a straight line;

•

Check if the frame is not bent or damaged.

If one of the above points deviates from normal, contact the dealer where you bought your electric wheelchair. Only

your dealer can make any repairs to the frame.
