This chapter provides instructions for using the BayStack 650 Access Point.
This device implements the latest in wireless LAN (Local Area Network)
technology, supporting the IEEE 802.11 standard for Wireless LANs.
The BayStack 650 Access Point communicates with a BayStack 650 PC Card (or
another frequency hopping PC card) installed in a laptop computer to provide you
with a connection to a BayStack 650 Wireless LAN.

Product Features

Features of the BayStack 650 Access Point include:

A transmission range of up to 225 feet (69 meters) in a typical office space
and up to 1000 feet (305 meters) in an open space environment.
You can install additional access points to extend the service area (that is,
access points and PCs with BayStack 650 PC cards installed). Each access
point can handle traffic for multiple users. Users can move from one service
area to another service area and maintain a continuous link. However,
network connections are suspended as the user moves outside a service area.
A link resumes when the user reenters the service area.
Supports high-user density, using up to 10 independent and overlapping
service areas.
Multiple layers of security, including access point locking, authentication, and
the IEEE 802.11 standard WEP (wired equivalent privacy) encryption option
for maximum integrity of data being sent over the air
Java-based software for device management with SNMP support.
Flash upgradeability.
LED indicators that provide hardware and Wireless LAN connection status.
