Connecting to a PROFIBUS
PA Instrument
In order for MC5-IS/FI5-IS to be able to communicate with a
PROFIBUS PA instrument, the instrument may not be con-
trolled by any other PROFIBUS master than MC5-IS/FI5-IS.
When connecting a PROFIBUS PA instrument to MC5-IS/FI5-
IS, MC5-IS/FI5-IS is the fieldbus master.
For advice on how to remove an instrument from a live seg-
ment, see chapter Calibration Procedure of a Fieldbus In-
strument, General on page 12. For further information, please
refer to your fieldbus control system manuals as well as the in-
strument's manual.
Chapter Notes and Warnings on page 8 contains information
of things to be aware of when working with live segments.
Connecting to a PROFIBUS PA Instrument
User Guide – MC5-IS Fieldbus Option for PROFIBUS PA
Notes.
There are no polarity requirements when connecting FI5-IS
to a fieldbus.
The connection need not be done using a fieldbus com-
pliant cable. A pair of standard measurement cables can
be used. However, when using longer connecting cables
there may be need for fieldbus terminators.
FI5-IS' current consumption from the bus is between 15 to
20 mA. The current consumption of fieldbus instruments
are typically between 10 to 20 mA each.
The rechargeable battery in FI5-IS provides supply power
to the communication between MC5-IS and FI5-IS. It does
not supply the fieldbus.
