  • Page 10 Enrojecimiento e hinchazón excesivos En algunos casos raros, la piel tratada puede ponerse atípicamente roja e hinchada. Esta reacción es más común en las áreas sensibles del cuerpo. El enrojecimiento y la hinchazón deberían desaparecer dentro de 2 a 7 días. Durante este tiempo, es imprescindible evitar cualquier exposición al sol.
  • Page 11 ¿Cómo elimina el vello la luz? La fotodepilación se basa en la teoría de la fototermólisis selectiva, que usa la energía óp- tica para detener el crecimiento del vello. La luz pulsada intensa se enfoca en el pigmento presente en el vello para llegar a la raíz y evitar que el vello vuelva a crecer. La melanina (el pigmento que se encuentra en el vello) primero absorbe la luz, y luego la transforma en calor para detener el crecimiento del vello.

    You have a pathology linked to photosensitivity, like porphyria, polymorphic eruption to light, solar urticaria, lupus, etc. You have a history of skin cancer or areas subject to dermal malignancies. You have been undergoing radiation or chemotherapy for the last 3 months. You suffer from any other condition your physician deems a risk for the treatment.

    Excessive redness and swelling In some rare cases, treated skin may become unusually red and swollen. This reaction is more common on sensitive areas of the body. The redness and the swelling should disappear within 2 to 7 days. During this time, you should especially avoid any exposure to the sun.
  • Page 37 How does the light eliminate hair? Photo-epilation is based on the theory of selective photothermolysis which uses optical energy to stop the growth of the hair. The pulsed light targets the pigment present in the hair to get through to the root and prevent the hair from growing back. Melanin is the pig- ment found in the hair, which first absorbs the light and then transforms the light into heat in order to stop the hair growth.
