    2   Pre-installation 2   Pre-installation • The CEPH upgrade kit consists of two packages, the cephalometric unit package and the upgrade package. The upgrade package consists of mechanical parts needed for the upgrade, CEPH sensor covers, installation screws, installation instructions, installation template, device manuals and quality control tools (optional).

    12. Reconnect the device by using the imaging software to finalize the update. NOTICE! After firmware update, the device reminds you to check that the installed KaVo driver is compatible with the updated firmware version. Compatibility can be seen in firmware and driver release letters.

    3   Device upgrade 3.2   Drive the device to packing position Drive the device to packing position. Go to device settings on the GUI. Select Service mode menu and enter PIN code 0612. GUI: Select Service menu. Select Drive to packing position. Press and hold down the exposure switch to drive the unit to the correct height. Power the device off.

Covers to be removed (in order): Lower shelf tray Patient handles Mirror Carriage side covers Upper shelf covers PAN/3D tubehead front cover with the tubehead plate PAN/3D tubehead back cover Rotating unit side covers Sensor collars and sensor covers * * Sensor collars and covers are different between 3D and PAN only devices...

    3   Device upgrade 3.4.2   Removing the patient handle Required tools: Hex key 6mm Remove the screws (4 pcs) under the patient handle. Remove the handle. 3.4.3   Removing the mirror Open the mirror. Lift the mirror slightly so that the guiding pins (4 pcs) unlock from the keyholes on the mirror plate. Remove the mirror from its guiding pins by pulling backwards.

Pull the covers apart, turn them outwards and lift them off. 3.4.5   Removing the upper shelf covers Required tools: Hex key 3mm Remove the screws (2 pcs) from top of the upper shelf.

    3   Device upgrade Remove the screw from below the upper shelf. Lift off the left cover half and then the right cover half from the upper shelf. NOTICE! Be careful not to damage the clamps that hold the covers together. 3.4.6   Removing the tubehead front cover Required tools: Hex key 3mm Detach the indicated screws (4 pcs) that hold the cover on the tubehead frame.

    3   Device upgrade 3.4.7   Removing the tubehead back cover Required tools: Hex key 3mm Remove the tubehead back cover by detaching the indicated screw and pull the cover outwards. The screw has a screw cover cap over it. Remove the tubehead back cover. 3.4.8   Removing the rotating unit side covers Required tools: Hex key 3mm NOTICE! Turn the rotating unit carefully so that it does not collide with the lower shelf.

    3   Device upgrade 3.4.9   Removing the sensor covers Required tools: Hex key 3mm 2D ONLY DEVICES Detach the 2D sensor cover screw. Pull the sensor collar halves apart to detach them from the sensor. 3D DEVICES Pull the 2D sensor collar cover downwards. ™...
  • Page 15 3   Device upgrade Detach the collar cover halves by lifting the left side cover upwards and pulling the covers apart. Remove the screw on the 2D sensor cover. Pull the sensor covers apart to detach them. To help unlocking the cover halves, squeeze the left side cover edges while pulling the covers apart.

    3   Device upgrade 3.5   Remove 3D sensor Remove the 3D sensor from the rotating unit. NOTICE! If the device is PAN only and does not have a 3D sensor, skip this step. Remove the sensor connectors and their EMC clamps from i2000 circuit board. Remove the sensor power cables.
  • Page 17 3   Device upgrade Remove the screws (4 pcs) that hold the sensor in place. NOTICE! Hold on to the sensor when you remove the screws. When all screws are off, the sensor can easily fall down and break. Remove the sensor and sensor cables from the device. Both will be installed back to the device later.

    3   Device upgrade 3.6   Remove sensor holder assembly Remove the sensor holder assembly from the rotating unit. The sensor holder assembly is replaced with a CEPH imaging compatible mechanism and a CEPH imaging capable sensor. Disconnect the device cables from i2000 image capture board and the cable clamp and grounding cable from the sensor holder assembly.

    3   Device upgrade PAN/3D WALL BRACKET CEPH WALL BRACKET 3.7   Linear movement mechanism replacement Replace the linear movement mechanism from the upper shelf. You must remove the rotating unit from the device to do this. Detach all main cable set connectors from the i3000 main control board and tubehead cable connectors from the upper shelf.
  • Page 20 3   Device upgrade Move the rotating unit so that it is in a 90 degree angle with the upper shelf. NOTICE! The tubehead must be in home position (on the right hand side of the device). Push the cable clamp lid down and pull it open to release the main cable. Remove the screws on the linear movement sledge that hold the rotating unit.
  • Page 21 3   Device upgrade Push the rotating unit against the carriage. Lift the rotating unit and slide it off from upper shelf. Lay the rotating unit carefully on the floor. NOTICE! 2 persons are recommended for this task. Remove the linear wiper from the linear movement sledge. Remove the retaining nut holding the linear movement screw in the coupler.
  • Page 22 3   Device upgrade 10. Move the linear movement outwards. 11. Detach the linear movement screw from the coupler using 7 mm and 15 mm wrenches. 12. Pull the linear movement screw with the compression spring out of the coupler. NOTICE! Do not remove the linear movement screw from the linear movement sledge. 13.

Fix the linear movement screw to the coupler with the retaining nut. 20. Check that the linear movement screw is able to move a bit in horizontal direction. 21.
  • Page 24 3   Device upgrade 24. Attach the cable to the linear movement motor. 25. Install the new linear movement sensor wiper assembly to the new linear movement sledge by pushing it in. NOTICE! Make sure that the wiper is locked firmly to its place. 26.
  • Page 25 3   Device upgrade 27. Attach the rotating unit to the new linear movement sledge with 4 screws. NOTICE! If the rotating unit support has only 2 screw holes, then attach the rotating unit with only 2 screws. 28. Route the main cable set through the cable clamps and attach the clamps. The main cable set has markings that indicate the correct cable position in relation to the clamps.

    3   Device upgrade 3.8   Rotating movement motor replacement Replace the rotating movement motor assembly from the rotating unit. Push the motor mount at the end of the rotating unit frame inwards to loosen the belt and drop the belt off the sprocket. Detach the cable from the motor.

    3   Device upgrade 3.9   Prepare the device for disassembly Attach the packing supports and plywood support so that you can remove the carriage from the column safely. Disconnect the Column control and Emergency switch connectors connected to top of the column. Remove the front support bar screws (2 pcs). Pull the front support bar out and attach it to outer position with the same screws.

    3   Device upgrade 3.10   Disassemble the device Remove the carriage from the column to let you to re-position the column for CEPH installation. NOTICE! It is recommended to protect the floor with, for example, the device package cardboard sheets. This prevents unwanted damage to the floor during the device disassembly. Make sure that the spring latch in the column is securely in place.
  • Page 30 3   Device upgrade Lower the carriage carefully to the floor against the front support bar. Pull the carriage off the column support hinge. Turn the carriage upside down so that it rests on top of the plywood support. Remove the wall bracket screws (3 pcs) from the column. ™...

    3   Device upgrade Remove the wall bracket from the wall. 10. Remove the column floor screws. 3.11   Re-assemble the device NOTICE! Refer to the supplied Installation manual for more instructions to these tasks. Move the column to a position where a CEPH device can be installed. Use the supplied installation template to help you find the correct position for the device.
  • Page 32 3   Device upgrade Remove the shipping support plate from the new sensor holder assembly. Lift the new sensor holder assembly to the rotating unit. Attach the sensor holder assembly fixing screws (M4x16, 2 pcs on both sides of the rotating unit). Attach the device cables to i2000 image capture board and the cable clamp (size 3N with M4x8) and grounding cables (M4x8 with star washers, 2 pcs) to the sensor holder assembly.
  • Page 33 3   Device upgrade Attach the 3D sensor power cable connector J2013 to i2000 circuit board and attach the EMC clamps (size 2N). Route the 3D sensor power and data cables from i2000 circuit board through the cable holder and through the opening on the sensor holder assembly. Turn the 2D sensor movement screw counter-clockwise with a flat head screwdriver or 3mm hex key to move the 2D sensor aside.
  • Page 34 3   Device upgrade 10. Make sure that the sensor mount support rod is all the way in the slot on the sensor holder assembly. 11. Attach the sensor mount to the sensor holder assembly with 2 screws (M6x20, 1 on both sides of the rod).

Guide the cables neatly against the sensor holder frame so that the sensor covers are easy to install. 3.14   Install CEPH secondary collimator Install the CEPH secondary collimator to the PAN/3D tubehead and connect all remaining cables to i2000 circuit board.

  • Page 37 3   Device upgrade Connect the collimator cable connectors J1038 and J1030 to the CEPH secondary collimator. Connect the connector J1005 to CEPH laser. Test that the child collimator plate can move freely and that it does not hit the tubehead. Route the collimator cable to the i2000 circuit board through the cable channel on top of the rotating unit.
  • Page 38 3   Device upgrade 10. Check that the collimator cable at the tubehead side of the rotating unit is routed between the tubehead hanger bars. This way the cable does not interfere with the cover installation. NOTICE! Make sure that the collimator cable and the cable labels do not interfere the X-ray beam.

    3   Device upgrade 3.15   Finalize the installation Calibrate the device and install the device covers to finalize the upgrade. Connect the mains cord, Ethernet cable, exposure switch cable and optional auxiliary cables to the carriage. Start the imaging software and prepare it for use. Power the device on.
