The HX3 is designed for use in a belt worn voice pouch. A headset provides voice instructions to the user and the user can respond via voice or an optional ring scanner.
Use this reference guide as you would any other source book – reading portions to learn about the HX3, and then referring to it when you need more information about a particular subject. This guide takes you through all aspects of installation and configuration for the LXE HX3.
HX3 backup battery will last for up to 15 minutes. If the backup battery is fully discharged, the HX3 will reset as soon as it is docked in a powered cradle or connected to a fully charged tethered battery. A reset will cause loss of data and custom programs in RAM.
Note: CAUTION WARNING DANGER HX3 Reference Guide All caps are used to represent disk directories, file names, and application names. Rather than use the phrase “choose the Save command from the File menu”, this manual uses the convention “choose File | Save”.
5. Attach the ring scanner to the HX3 (optional). 6. Connect the HX3 via a USB-C connection to a desktop PC. 7. Copy LXEConnect setup files from the HX3 to the PC. Install and launch LXEConnect on the PC. 8. Set up the wireless client and network management programs. Refer to Chapter 5 – Wireless Network Configuration.

Li-Ion Battery Note: The HX3 uses the same batteries, charger and cradle as the LXE HX2. Main battery charging is handled exclusively by the HX2 Multi-Charger/analyzer and the battery charger integrated into a powered cradle. The Standard battery is much thinner than the Extended battery.
Remove the HX3 from the mount assembly by pushing down on either mounting clip, or both, until the HX3 mounting bracket disconnects. Or you can disconnect from one clip, then lift the HX3 up at a 45 degree angle until the other side disconnects. Lift the HX3 up and away from the mount assembly.
Mounting Devices HX3 Voice Case Assembly There are two optional voice cases for the HX3. One design has a partially open front, allowing easy access to the HX3 keypad. The second case design has a clear window covering the keypad.
The HX3 is booting. Green – Steady Green – Blinking The HX3 is On, the OS is loaded and the unit is attached to either a battery with a good charge or to an external power source such as a cradle.
Retaining Clip, then pinch and pull the cable connector (not the cable!) straight up and away from the HX3. Do not use a metal object, or extreme force, to remove the cable connector from the HX3. Re-connect cables and reassemble the HX3 body-worn components.
2. Attach the battery cable, ring scanner and audio device to the HX3. 3. Slip the HX3 into the voice case. Be sure the screen and keypad are visible through either the opening (voice case without clear window) or through the clear window (voice case with window).
If the voice case is damaged, it should be removed from service. Note: The HX3 with a voice case does not fit in the cradle. Remove the voice case before placing the HX3 in a charged cradle. Connecting the Audio Cable and a Headset See section titled Set the Audio Speaker Volume.
The Power key is an oval button located below the LEDs. When a battery is connected to the HX3 for the first time press the Power key. The mobile device begins the startup process. And the Status LED is solid green. Wait until the LED begins blinking green to indicate the HX3 has successfully booted into the OS.
Press and hold the Power key for approximately 15 seconds then release the key. After releasing the Power key, the Status LED lights solid green to indicate the HX3 is rebooting. If user data was not saved before the Hardware Reset function started, data loss occurs and unsaved registry settings are lost.
HX3. Note: The HX3 reloads the operating system upon every warm boot or cold boot. Anything not saved or preserved to the registry is lost. In warm boot, the OS and the CAB files are reloaded from the internal SD card and the preserved registry is also reloaded.
Steady: The HX3 is booting. Green Blinking: Battery power is good (or the HX3 is attached to an AC power source). Steady: Main battery power is low. Battery should be replaced as soon as possible. Blinking: Main battery power failure.

These options can still be checked or unchecked whether Bluetooth is enabled or disabled. As Bluetooth devices pair with the HX3, the name of the device and an icon representing the type of device is displayed in the Devices window. The icon state changes as the paired Bluetooth devices connect and disconnect from the HX3.
Computer is discoverable There is no dialog connected to this checkbox. Enable this checkbox when you want the HX3 to be Discovered by other Bluetooth devices. This option is disabled by default. Prompt if devices request to pair A dialog box appears on the HX3 screen notifying the user a Bluetooth device requests to pair with the HX3.
10. Whenever the HX3 returns from Suspend Mode, all previously paired, live, Bluetooth devices in the vicinity are paired, one at a time, with the HX3. If the devices cannot connect to the HX3 before the re-connect timeout time period expires there is no indication of the continuing disconnect state.
The Bluetooth LED is located above the Power key on the front of the HX3. The Bluetooth LED blinks slowly when it is idle. Blinks quickly when the HX3 is discovering other Bluetooth devices. And blinks normally when it is connected. There may be audible or visual signals from paired devices as they re-connect with the HX3.
Introduction LXE supports several different types of barcode readers. This section describes the interaction and setup for a mobile Bluetooth laser scanner or laser imager connected to the HX3 using Bluetooth functions. • The HX3 must have the Bluetooth hardware and software installed. Contact your LXE representative for details.
1. Scan the Bluetooth address barcode label, attached to the HX3, with the LXE Bluetooth mobile scanner. 2. If this is the first time the Bluetooth scanner has scanned the HX3 Bluetooth label, the devices are paired. If not, go to the next step.
Bluetooth HX3 without Label If the HX3 Bluetooth address barcode label does not exist, follow these steps to create a unique Bluetooth address barcode for the HX3: First, locate the HX3 Bluetooth address by tapping Start | Settings | Control Panel | Bluetooth | About tab.
Contact LXE Support for assistance. Bluetooth Printer Setup The Bluetooth managed device should be as close as possible, in direct line of sight, with the HX3 during the pairing process. 1. Open the LXEZ Pairing panel [Start | Settings | Control Panel | Bluetooth].
Data Entry Data Entry You can enter data into the HX3 through several different methods. The Ring Scanner aperture provides barcode data entry, the Input/Output (I/O) ports, the built-in microphone and speaker are used to input/output data, and the physical and virtual keypads provide text entry.
Move the ring scanner towards or away from the barcode until a response is emitted by the HX3 (1 beep, 2 beeps, a WAV file, etc) or the bracketed crosshair times out and disappears.
Strap Assemblies Caution: Do not perform the following procedures if the ring barcode reader is tethered to the HX3. There is a possibility the Scan button may be pressed inadvertently and the laser beam emitted. LXE recommends that installation or removal of accessories be performed on a clean, well-lit surface.
3. Using a Phillips screwdriver with a blade diameter of 1/8” (.4mm) rotate the black screw clockwise until the trigger module is secured to the ring scanner. 4. Install the finger strap.
