4-wire sense connection

SHOCK HAZARD
Turn off AC power before making rear panel connections. All wires and straps must be properly connected with
the terminal block screws securely tightened.
TURN DEVICE OFF BEFORE CONNECTING TO OUTPUT TERMINALS
Turn off the device power before connecting to the output terminals.
LETHAL VOLTAGES AND CURRENTS
- SHOCK HAZARD. Floating voltage must not exceed 240 V
floating voltage must not be more than 240 V
- The output terminal is designed for DC application. Ensure that transient voltages do not exceed 90 V
- The connector screw terminals will be at hazardous potential when in operation.
- Personal injury on contact may result if these terminals are touched when equipment is in operation.
- To avoid injuries, always disconnect power, discharge circuits, and remove external voltage sources before
any installation.
- Installation procedures must be performed by a qualified and trained personnel on this equipment.
DO NOT TOUCH CABLES DURING OPERATION
Do not touch the cable while the instrument output is operational to prevent electric shock hazard and burn
hazard.
DO NOT CONNECT FRONT AND REAR OUTPUT TERMINAL CONCURRENTLY
Do not connect the front and rear output terminal concurrently for the same output channel. Failing to observe
the
connection requirement could potentially raise a fire hazard if the output current exceeding 80 A.
ENSURE PROPER AWG CABLE IS USED
Use a cable with the correct voltage and AWG rating based on the intended setup when operating the E36150
Series autoranging DC power supplies.
The power supply includes built-in relays that connect or disconnect the ± sense terminals from their corresponding
± output terminals. As shipped, the sense terminals are internally connected to the output terminals. This is referred
to as 2-wire, or local sensing.
4-wire, or remote sensing improves the voltage regulation at the load by monitoring the voltage at the load rather
than at the output terminals. This automatically compensates for the voltage drop in the load leads, which is
especially useful for CV operation with load impedance that vary or have significant lead resistance. Because remote
sensing is independent of other power supply functions, it can be used regardless of how the instrument is
programmed. Remote sensing has no effect during CC operation.
The following figures illustrate load connections using 2-wire sensing and 4-wire sensing.
