regular full-throttle position; increased resist-
ance will be felt.
Sport program and M/S manual-shift
mode
Move selector lever to the left from position D,
into the M/S selection gate:
The Sport program is activated and DS appears
in the instrument cluster. This position is
recommended for a performance-oriented driv-
ing style.
To deactivate the Sport program or the M/S
manual mode, move the selector lever to the
right into position D.
Changing gears with the selector lever
Move selector lever to the left from position D,
into the M/S selection gate:
When you press the selector lever forwards or
backwards, the manual mode is activated and
Steptronic changes gear. The instrument clus-
ter shows M1 to M6.
Upshifts and downshifts are performed only at
suitable engine and road speeds; for example,
the transmission will not shift down if the result-
ing engine speed would be too high. The gear
selected is briefly displayed in the instrument
cluster, followed by the gear actually in use.
Shifting gears using the shift paddles*
on the steering wheel
The shift paddles make it possible to change
gears quickly, as both hands can remain on the
steering wheel.

When you shift gears in automatic mode via
the shift paddles on the steering wheel, the
transmission switches to manual mode.

If you do not use the shift paddles to change
gears and do not accelerate for a certain
amount of time, the transmission switches
back to automatic mode.
If the selector lever is in the M/S gear
plane, manual mode remains

Overriding selector-lever lock
Should the selector lever be stuck in position P
despite the ignition being switched on, the
brake being depressed and the button on the
selector lever being pressed, the selector-lever
lock can be overridden:
1.
Unclip the gaiter of the selector lever.
2.
Pull the gaiter up over the selector lever
until the gaiter is inside out.
3.
Using the screwdriver from the toolkit, see
page 196, press the red lever, see arrow,
active.<
