III. MIXER MODES
One of the most important things to understand about the VS-880 is how the digital mixer is setup. On the
diagram on page 1, itÕs easy to see that there are eight faders. But the VS-880 mixer makes use of these
faders in many different ways, which are arranged in three different Mixer Modes. Each mode is designed
for different configurations and each mode has unique functions that allow the VS-880 digital mixer to be
very versatile.
As you can see in the above diagram, the three Mixer Modes are:
1) INPUTcTRACK mode
2a) INPUT MIX mode
2b) TRACK MIX mode
The VS-880 defaults to INPUTcTRACK mode. The other two ÒMixÓ modes can be entered by holding the
SHIFT button and pressing the SELECT button. The orange light will then switch from INPUTcTRACK to
INPUT MIX. Now, switching between INPUT MIX and TRACK MIX is as simple as pressing the SELECT
button alone. These two modes work in tandem with one another as we will see later.
The next sections will cover the differences and applications for each mixer mode. First, we will explain
the differences between INPUTcTRACK Mode and INPUT MIX/TRACK MIX Mode. An understanding of
these recording modes is essential for many of the operations of the VS-880 including:
¥ Recording with EQ
¥ Recording with effects
¥ Listening to effects while recording, but not recording the effects
¥ Using the faders to record level changes
¥ Using pan pots to record multiple Inputs with different stereo pan positions
As you read the following explanations, refer to the diagrams that show how the audio signal flows. The
signal is represented by an arrow, with the audio signal flowing in the direction of the arrow.
