E. Select the type of Effect
Here, we can choose the type of effect to be used for EFFECT 1. Repeat these steps to select the effect
type for EFFECT 2.
1) Press the EFFECT button under EDIT CONDITION until ÒEFFECT 1?Ó (or ÒEFFECT 2?Ó) is displayed.
2) Press the YES/ENTER button to confirm that we will be selecting or editing an effect for EFFECT 1.
3) Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select the desired effect. For this example, choose Ò22=RV:PanningGt.Ó
4) Press the YES/ENTER button to confirm your selection. At this point you should be able to hear the
effect in your speakers or headphones.
F. Route the outputs of the Effects processor
Now that we have assigned the effect to a channel and selected the effect to be used, we will route the
output of the effects processor to a Track on which to record it. We will route the output of the effects
(1, 2 or both) to Track 6. We have already routed the signal from Input 1 to Track 6.
1) Press the EDIT button (found over the MASTER fader) until "EFF1 RTN to= " is displayed.
2) Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select "EFF1 RTN= 5-6", to route the effect to record buss 5-6. To record
the effect to a Track other than 6, select 1-2, 3-4, or 7-8.
3) Press the PARAMETER right button to display "EFF1 RTN Lev=100.Ó This is the Effect Return Level
which determines how much effect is heard and recorded. If you make this level higher or lower using
the TIME/VALUE dial, you will hear the amount of effect increase or decrease accordingly.
4) Press the PARAMETER right button again to display "EFF1 RTN Bal=0.Ó This is the Return Balance
parameter which will determine whether the effect is recorded to channel 5 or 6 or both. Since we want to
record the effect with the Input signal to Track 6, turn the TIME/VALUE dial clockwise and set the value to
R63 (all the way to the right). If we set the value to L63, the effect would be routed to Track 5.
Note: If you continue pressing the PARAMETER right button, you will access these same parameters for
EFFECT 2.
G. Record
To begin recording, we will return to the play screen.
1) Press the DISPLAY button. The display will return to the previously selected play screen. Use the
display screens to check your levels and make sure the INPUT SENS 1 light is not peaking when you
play. Also, make sure the sound is not distorting in your speakers or headphones.
2) Press REC followed by PLAY to record your guitar part with effects.
Explanation of the VS8F-1 Effects Positions: Pre Fader, Post Fader, and Insert
Pre Fader (PreFade)
¥
In the PreFade position, the dry (uneffected) signal is sent to the Effects processor before it reaches the
fader. Changes in fader position will not change the level of the signal being sent to the Effects
processor.
Post Fader (PstFade)
¥
In the PstFade position, the signal is sent to the Effects processor after it has passed through the fader.
Changes in fader position will change the level of the signal being sent to the Effects processor. This is
the most commonly used mode for reverb, delay, and chorus effects.
Serial Processing (Insert)
¥
In the Insert position, the signal is sent to the Effects processor and then the output of the Effects
processor is sent to the fader. There is no ÒdryÓ signal that ever reaches the fader. Changes in fader
position will not change the level of the signal being sent to the Effects processor. Insert effects are
used when you donÕt want to hear the original ÒdryÓ signal without processing. This is commonly used
for such things as compression on vocals or guitar amp modeling effects.
