the way to the right. This will ensure that the signal is recorded only to Track 4.

COPY, CUT, ERASE Ð TRACK EDITING
One of the most powerful aspects of the VS-880 is its capability to function as a digital audio editor. Much
like a word processor, the VS-880 allows you to cut, copy and paste recorded audio. Unlike a word
processor it has 999 levels of Undo (if you make a mistake) and does not consume more hard disk space
when you copy data. Instead, the VS-880 simply ÒlooksÓ at the original source data whenever a copy is
made. So if you have a two bar beat loop playing through a four minute song, you donÕt have to record four
minutes of the same two measures. Just record the first two measures, and then copy it as many times as
necessary Ð using no additional disk space!
The following examples will assume that you have been through the first five sections of these
Supplemental Notes.
Cutting data from a Track is also similar to a word processor. If you have three paragraphs, and you ÒCUTÓ
the middle one, the bottom paragraph will move up into its place. So in other words, cutting is a time
sensitive edit. When you cut data, youÕre cutting time out of that particular Track.
If you want to remove recorded data from a Track without removing time, then you want to use the
ÒERASEÓ function, which simply removes selected audio while keeping the audio that follows it in the same
place. Erasing is very much like using a pencil Ð if you write a sentence, and one word in the middle is
erased, thereÕs simply a blank space there. The other words donÕt move.
We already talked a little about copying data. The concept is fairly self explanatory. If you sang a great
vocal riff, and you want it to occur several times throughout the song, you donÕt have to sing it again. You
can simply copy that riff to any place in the song and you wonÕt be using any additional disk space. The
VS-880 will just ÒlookÓ at the original riff each time it occurs in the song.
