STARTING THE ENGINE

Before attempting to start the engine,
make sure to follow these steps.
1. Shift the transmission to neutral.
2. Turn the key to the "ON" position.
3. Set the engine stop switch to the
"RUN" position.
4. Set the fuel valve to the "ON" posi-
tion.
When the Engine is Cold:
If the ambient temperature is below
5°C (40°F):
1. Move the choke lever to the
ENGAGE position.
2. Squeeze the clutch lever and push
the electric starter button.
3. Immediately
starts, return the choke lever half-
way.
4. When the engine is sufficiently
warmed up, move the choke lever
to the "OFF" position.
NOTE: Turn the fuel valve to the "PRI"
position when the engine is hard to
start below freezing point. Return the
fuel valve to "ON" or "RES" after start-
ing the engine.
WARNING
Leaving the fuel valve in the "PRI"
position when the engine is off
can be hazardous.
The carburetor may overflow and
fuel may run into the engine. This
can cause a fire or cause severe
damage to the ATV when you start
the engine.
Always leave the fuel valve in the
"ON" or "RES" position when the
engine is not running.

If the ambient temperature is at or
above 5°C (40°F):
1. Move the choke lever to the
ENGAGE position halfway.
2. Apply the rear brake pedal and
release the parking brake by
squeezing the clutch lever.
3. Squeeze the clutch lever and push
the electric starter button.
4. When the engine is sufficiently
warmed up, move the choke lever
to the "OFF" position.
NOTE: If the ambient temperature is
above 20 °C (68 °F), operation of the
choke is not necessary to start the
engine. Operation of the choke can
make the engine hard to start due to
too rich fuel/air mixture.
