11.5 Rotor Repair

The decant solenoid has electrical characteristics that can be checked with
the unit unplugged. First, remove the cabinet (see Section 8.1) and
disconnect the solenoid coil connector (J8). Measure the resistance across
the two leads. It should be 645 Ω ± 15 Ω . If it is outside this range or reads
open, replace the coil.
Note:
The resistance may vary on cell washers below the serial no.s
23920499 & 24970094. Refer to Section 11.6.
To verify power is being applied to the coil, use the following procedure.
It requires operation of the unit with power applied and the cabinet removed
(see Section 8.1). Use caution to avoid electric shock (see Section 7.1,
Warnings and Cautions). Use a voltmeter to measure the DC voltage to the
coil at connector J8. Place probes in the back of the connector shell. Plug
the unit in and verify that a properly loaded rotor is installed. Select one
WASH cycle, and press the START key. Approximately 147 VAC should be
present for the third step (DECANT) of the wash cycle. If power is not
present, replace the PC board. If power is present, but decanting still does
not occur, check the other possible causes listed earlier in this section.
To replace the solenoid coil, remove the cabinet (see Section 8.1) and
inner splash guard (see Motor Replacement). Disconnect the connector (J8)
to the solenoid coil.
Note: Be sure to take note of how the coil is sealed to the drive
assembly. When replacing the coil it is important to reseal the
assembly using RTV.
Remove the three screws holding the coil mounting plate to the motor. Turn
the coil mounting plate upside down and remove the three screws holding the
coil to the mounting plate. Remove the wiring connector and pull the coil out
of the mounting plate. Place the new coil leads through the mounting plate
and secure the new coil to the plate using the three screws. Re-attach the
connector to the new coil leads. Place the entire assembly on the drive and
secure with the three screws. Be sure to seal the assembly as it was prior to
disassembly.
The 477 rotor is made of durable plastic. If a tubeholder or pivot break, they
can be replaced using the following procedure:
1.
Remove rotor from cell washer, remove any tubes and place the
rotor upside down on a level workspace.
2.
Remove the metal retaining ring that holds the stand (shown #2) in
place and remove the stand.
3.
Remove the second retaining ring (shown #15), and remove the
three socket head screws (shown #13) using a 7/64" Allen wrench.
4.
Lift the metal deck (shown #4) off of the assembly.
