When more than a few IEDs must be networked, the preferred
method of connecting the devices is by means of one or more
network switches. The diagram below shows a single ECM850
port connected to one port of a switch, leaving the remainder of
the switch's ports available for connection to IEDs. If more IEDs
must be connected, more switches can be connected to the
ECM850's other ports, or additional switches can be connected to
the first.
