Video Memory

There is 8 MB of video RAM (VRAM) consisting of 4 chips on the back of the
board, and 16 chips on the front of the board. This is used for the frame
buffer, for holding both the on-screen surface (reflecting what is currently
displayed on the screen) and the off-screen surface (video frame, fonts,
double buffer).
In addition, there is a 8 MB local buffer, consisting of 4 MB on the board
itself, and a 4 MB on a daughter board. This buffer is software-configured for
the allocation of bits between Z-buffer, stencil buffer, fast clear, and graphics
ID functions, to the extent shown in the following table.

Available Video Resolutions

The number of colors supported is limited by the graphics device and the
video memory. The resolution/color/refresh-rate combination is limited by a
combination of the display driver, the graphics device, and the video
memory. If the resolution/refresh-rate combination is set higher than the
display can support, you risk damaging the display.
The following table lists the video resolutions that are available from the
current drivers (later drivers may differ).
Resolution
640 x 480
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1152 x 870
1280 x 1024
Color depths of 8 bits per pixel (8 bpp = 256 colors) and 15 bits per pixel
(32K colors) are dithered in the hardware to improve the quality of the
displayed image and to eliminate mock-banding effects.
The AccelPro TX2500 3D graphics controller board does not support the
highest screen resolutions that are supported by the Matrox Millennium 2D
graphics controller board. This is an inevitable price to be paid for three
dimensional functionality; 3D graphics functions entail multiple buffers,
thus limiting the screen size and resolution that is available to each buffer.
