HP PCI Integrated 10/100 BT Interface Board

The HP PCI Integrated 10/100 BT Interface Board is I/O mapped, on the
PCI bus, and has bus-master capability. It has a single RJ-45 unshielded-
twisted-pair (UTP) connector, which supports two network standards:
• 100 BaseT, 100 Mbits per second over 2-pair, category-5, unshielded
twisted pair (UTP) cable (IEEE 802.3u standard for 100 Mbits/second)
• 10 BaseT, 10 Mbits per second over 2-pair, category-3, 4 or 5 UTP cable
(IEEE 802.3 standard for 10 Mbits/second, ISO 8802-3).
The protocol is Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection
(CSMA/CD); the encoding is 4B/5B; the signalling frequency is 125 MHz.
Each pair of connections must be twisted along the full length of the cable.
When a computer is connected to a hub, the
the 1-1 (white/orange) and 2-2 (orange/white) twisted pair, whilst the
signal is carried on the 3-3 (white/green) and 6-6 (green/white)
receive
twisted pair. The remaining four pins are not used, although they may be
wired in the cable. (The socket pin-out is shown on page 32).

When a computer is connected to a computer (or a hub to a hub), a cross-
over cable is required. One signal is carried on the 1-3 and 2-6 twisted pair,
whilst the other is carried on the 3-1 and 6-2 twisted pair. Again, the
remaining four pins are not used, although they may be wired in the cable.
