Security mode prevents changes to the computer's configuration with the Setup program

System Board Switches
The first three of the system board switches set the configuration for the
computer, as summarized in the table below. The next two set the frequency
of the Processor-Local bus, and the last three the ratio of processor-
frequency to Processor-Local-bus-frequency, as summarized on page 10.
By setting switch SW1-2 in the
configuration data cleared (in the CMOS memory and the Serial EEPROM),
but also all the Plug-and-Play data that had been saved in the Serial
EEPROM. However, the serial number, the tattooing string, the date and the
time are each retained.
Updating the BIOS Before Considering Replacing the System Board
If the computer boots, and any fault that it has is not clearly due to the
system board hardware, then it is advisable to check the BIOS version
number. The BIOS version number is displayed on the Setup screen,
obtained by pressing
If it is not the current version of the BIOS, as obtained from the
HP Electronic Support services, the System ROM should be flashed with the
new version, as described on the previous page. The computer should then
be re-run to see if this has cleared the problem.

Little Ben

Little Ben is an HP application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), designed
to be a companion to the Super I/O chip. It connects between the chip-set
and the processor. It contains the following:
• BIOS timer
hardware wired 50 ms long 880 Hz beep module.
automatic blinker that feeds the LEDs module with a 1 Hz oscillator
signal.
