Chapter 4 Data Testing

SpeedCheck testing

The SpeedCheck test is used to check downstream and upstream
throughput via the test interfaces. Its Download/ Upload rate
is up to 2 Gbps for Ethernet. SpeedCheck uses any IP interface,
including IPv4 and IPv6, that you established for testing. Once
there is data over WiFi, it will also work over WiFi.
The Companion uses HTTP to perform a SpeedCheck test and
requires access to an HTTP server. This server is a generic HTTP
server with minor configuration changes to support high speed
throughput. The server needs to be placed in the network in
a way that will allow it to deliver very high data rate traffic
to the unit for downstream and upstream throughput testing.
VIAVI recommends the Apache HTTP server (v 2.4) that is readily
available from Apache and supports multiple operating systems.

SpeedCheck server setup

Follow the Apache server installation instructions. To enhance
the server's ability to support high bandwidth SpeedCheck tests, the following changes
should be made to the server configuration file.
File – C:\Apache24\conf\httpd.conf
y
Modification
y
EnableSendfile off {default} – Change the EnableSendfile setting to OFF
y
SendBufferSize 1000000 buffer –
y
These changes to the configuration file are similar regardless of the operating system that
Apache is being run on, but the location of the file may change.
Once the server is configured, a very large file needs to be placed on the server that the
Companion will download during the SpeedCheck test. VIAVI recommends a throughput file
of at least 2 GB. This file is typically located in the Apache htdocs directory.
Once the server configuration is complete, the IP address of the server and filename of the
throughput file must be configured in the meter in the Profile Manager, as shown above.
NOTE:
Running 2G Ookla, TruSpeed, and SpeedCheck tests,
require the 2G speed GPON software option and our
1/2.5/5/10GE SFP.
